Can 6 year old content still be used?

Hey my name is kylumi....I was once long time Platinum Club  member...and still have a semblence of a gallery left on here. I was lucky enough to have some of my stuff feature in "The Official Guide to Using DAZ Studio to Create Beautiful Art".

I must admit that i'm completly baffled by all the updates etc......but my question is this, Is old content still valid and useable??  I have a whole bunch of content which is GREYED OUT, when I double click them, the icons then appear in color but seem to require updates... Michael 5 and Victoria 6 for example.

Thank you for any help you may give.

Yes indeed. Almost everything that was designed for DAZ or Poser can still be used. (Some of the Poser utility stuff isn't of use.)

Here is Millenium Woman 1 "Vicky" who is now close to 20 years old. Still placeable, poseable, renderable (not buyable). You should have no problem with the early Genesis figures.

I still use content I bought 15 years ago, so yes, 6 years old content can definitely still be used :) It's totally possible that some was updated, though. And you may need to adjust the materials if you want to use them with Iray render engine.

When you say "greyed out", where are you looking? There's a new system to install content directly from studio called Daz Connect (DIM and manual install are still possible), and depending on where you look content installed with Connect or with other means may appear differently.

Hi  Kylumi,  long time no see.    Are you still living in that unpronouncable place  in the next valley over?

  • Merged threads.

  • Without more information, it does sound like you either need to re-install the greyed out items or find a way to connect the CMS to the file locations where you have them saved ... sometimes easier said than done. What version of Daz Studio are you using?

If you are using Smart Content, rather than the Content Library to access your content, then many of your older content may not have the metadata necessary to display them properly in Smart Content. The updates would be required to provide the required metadata.
