Exporting from Blender with weird 'skin mutation'

Hi,
Sometimes I hate Blender, I never have any luck making walls wtih openings. I used Boolean to cut out the holes. (That was glitchy. Sometimes I had to use BMesh, sometimes I had to use Carve???) Well, after a lot of work I imported the room into Daz only for all the openings to be blocked up. Here's a test in a new file I'm doing.
I asked on a Blender forum and was told to 'fix the mesh'. Wow, helpful. I was also told to export as triangles. That worked. But, (I hate feeling like I'm missing something or doing something wrong) I've given up with walls many times in the past from Blender because when I render them they look 'crystalised' the weired tringles affect the tone of the wall.
That isn't happening this time but can anyone help me understand this rather than me pretending it didn't happen. :)
This is the none triangulated test.
This is it with a material.
This is the tirangulated version with a material.
This is looking fine but, is this just how it works? Have I just been 'lucky' never using the 'triangulate' export before or given up and burried it deep in my mind? :)
Oh, and btw, I've just, for the first time been able to include the attachment in the text but can't make it larger.
Thanks.

You don't necessarily need to go all out for triamngles, but you do want quads or triangles if possible. What you defintiely don't want are any polygons with a bite taken out of them (concave polygons) as they will get filled in, producing the blocking off effect you see.
Two suggestions for you to get rid of the polygons that are giving Daz Studio fits.
You could use a Remesh modifier after the Boolean. The 'wall' on the left in the picture is done this way. Start with a cube and add a Boolean modifier with a cylinder, the add the Remesh modifier. Either apply the modifiers before you export, or check the 'Apply Modifiers' option in the export dialog options. If you apply them before export, you could eliminate some of the unwanted edges by dissolving them. This would work for any shape of hole, not just cylindrical, though you may have to increase the Octree Depth on the remesh modifier for complicated shapes.
For cylindrical holes, consider the Circle operation provided by the Loop Tools addon (included in Blender, just enable it). The 'wall' on the right is produced by putting a few edge loops on the cube, then selecting a square of vertices and deleting them on both sides. Next, select the verts around the square holes and use the Circle operation - makes the squares into circles. Now select the two circles of verts and bridge them. This takes longer and only works for circles, obviously, but the topology is better.
Thanks Richard, If triangles aren't a problem then I'll do that. I don't really want a load of wasted verteces if possible. I know this example is simple and it wouldn't matter too much but I these little things buid up in big projects.
Thank you so much for this. I'll look at that. It's really kind of you to take the time to explain.
I got another dumb response in Blender. Something like. Well, actually, you do have a problem with your work flow, fix your topology. Thanks, Einstein! Are these people just being trolls?
It's nice to have people who will actually help. Massive thanks.
