Removing Metadata

I recently installed some stuff. I didn't install any .exe files with metadata in the name, but I have still unfortunately installed some meta data. Is there a way to get rid of it and then make sure all of the content is still showing up as unassigned?

Does anyone here use the metadata that products usually come with? Is there a way to use content that has been categorized like that? I can't seem to think of any way to categorize something or make use of anything if it's categorized like that. As best I can tell, an outfit appears to show up in several different places separated completely based on body part and named such that you can't tell anything about what the product that it's supposed to be a part of such that you can't actually assign a complete outfit to a character. How are you supposed to use content that has been categorized the way it gets categorized by metadata? Can you use content that has been categorized by metadata?

Metadata seems in theory to be a great idea that would allow content to be by default in a rational categorization where the textures for an outfit are in a folder under the outfit they go to and all of the clothing parts including the prop parts are in the same place. Instead it seems to separate everything in random directions such that they become completely unusable. Am I just looking at this wrong and don't know the secret to making use of this feature?

    What you can do is:
    1) If you have custom categories of your own, Content DB Maintenance > Export User Data
    2) Content DB Maintenance > Reset Database
    3) Content DB Maintenance > Re-Import Metadata, keep User Data checked and uncheck Products. That will import just your custom categories.

To avoid getting the metadata in the future, either stop the CMS before installing with DIM and restart it afterwards, or install the zips manually.
