Can Genesis 2 Duf's be made to work with V4?

I am trying to learn how to use the V4 to Genesis 2 Female Batch converter. When I convert files to DUFs, they will not apply to V4. The same is true if I save a Material from Genesis 2 (with a V4 UV). Is there any way to adjust these files so I can use them with V4?

Materials saved from V4 to DUF's DO work wuth Genesis 2.

Thank you.

I'm afraid the surfaces names changed between V4 and G2F. From memory G2F has "alternate surface name" properties which enables DS to "translate" a V4 preset.

The batch converter and presets saved directly from G2F use G2F surfaces names, which is why they don't work on V4. I'm not sure there's any way to change that.

    Thanks,

I'm aware of why they don't work, I was hoping for a simple change.

Beside opening the presets in a text editor and doing a "search and replace" to use the V4 surface names I don't know any.

  • If you apply a native .dsa, .dsb or .pz2 MAT to V4, you can then save it directly as a .duf MAT (File > Save As > Material Preset).  Because the original surface names are retained the .duf will load OK back onto V4.

I know that .duf files cannot be viewed from the Poser Formats library, but I think native V4 MATs (.dsa, .dsb and .pz2) can be viewed in the DAZ Studio Formats library.  So if the concern is easy access to MATs all you really need to do is put a set of copies in the DAZ folders.

Draagonstorm's batch converter changes the surface names to Genesis 2 names.  If you need to apply these MATs to V4 you can do so by creating a Surface Selection Set for V4 which will include all the Genesis 2 surface names mapped back to the original V4 names.  Unfortunately this takes a bit of time to do, and there does not seem to be a way to save them, so each time you load a new V4 you will need to recreate the Surface Selection Sets anew, so I have written a brief script which will load Genesis 2 Surface Selection Sets onto Victoria 4 in a jiffy (attached).  Let me know if you have any problems with it.

@ Leana, FYI notepad ++ will let you do that as a batch without opening the individual files. Probably not much help because the "Batch" would only be one product

@Cayman I knew that, I was looking for a way to use the output of the batch converter on V4. I wouldn't mind using newer Gen2F textures either.

I guess i could write a script to do the replacements

    Thanks All
