How do I copy and paste a selected surface without it copying the root node?

I want to copy the Base surface to the Base surface of another object. So I select Base, I choose Copy Selected Surface(s), then I paste to the Base surface of my other object. The problem is that it also copies Front1 as well. This causes the Geometry surface to also be copied which is not what I want. I only want the Base surface to be copied and pasted.
Look in the following image, when I select the Base surface, it also selects Front1 surface, but I don't want it to do that. I only want to copy the Base surface, how would I achieve that?
Basically, I'm trying to copy a hair material to another hair, but I don't want it to copy and override the cutout opacity textures, only the base surface material.

I think you would need to use a Shader Preset for that, deselecting all but the desired proeprty group in the options dialogue.
I was hoping it wouldn't come to that because I lose the power of quickly copying and pasting.
For now I'm forced to copy the entire material group, then restore the cutout opacity to the original map. That's not so bad, because I can still do it within five to six seconds.
Hopefully in the future they allow us to copy & paste material sub-groups, instead of forcing us to copy the entire group.
