Head, limbs etc, lack of control.

I am experiencing an odd situation manipulating and posing figures. When I try to pose a figure either using the green red and blue control arrows on the figure or by trying to use a pre-selected pose from the content library I have no control over what happens to it. The head, limbs etc flounder all over the place or, when I 'click' on a pre-selected pose it disappears back to the centre of the viewport where it was when first accessed. I have attached a sample pic where I have been trying to persuade the Little Soldier to mount a horse. Can anyone help with this please? I am wonderring if I need to 'revert to factory settings' if indeed it is possible to do that. If it is I'd like to know.
Thank you for taking the time to consider this query.

If you want to move a figure around the scene use the figure node, rather than the hip. Poses shouldn't touch the figure node. but they will often zero the hip (placement poses, on the other hand, should use the figure and not the hip).
The arrows are translate controls - only the hip and the figure nodes translate, if you try using the equivalent on other bones you are using ActivePose or the IK system, both of which will adjust the whole figure (up to any pins) as you drag the bone. use the rotation controls for posing bones.
I've had something liek this with a few things (all 'old' cr2 style figutes) where teh newest Daz Studio adds IK chanis for you, just expand the base node and you should see around 4 of them, you can just delete them.
Thank you Richard and Simon, I'll get back to it.
