3delight not working?

Hello! I'm new to DAZ3d and I'm having trouble with rendering in 3delight.
The other options work fine for me.

I'm sure someone has had this problem before, but after hours of searching, I can't find anything!

When I render with 3delight, it just shows up black. Just a plain black image.

> I have not messed with ANY settings, and haven't manually installed anything, or messed with it in anyway.

> I am not using lights, because I know that is potentially a problem that can make a black image.
> The attachment shows what I'm talking about.

    Create a Distant Light and try rendering again.

    Thank you for the tip, but that didn't work either, no matter where I put it.

    Are you rendering through the Camera, or the Viewport? If you are rendering throgh the camera, is it pointed correctly, and have you selected it in the render screen?

    Another thing to try, although your settings *should* work ... create a camera (using your current viewport settings), and use that to render through instead of the "current viewport" option.

    Hi,

    the setting "active viewport" for your Preset seems unusual.
    Click on Reset for the settings.
    Then you should see "Custom" for the Preset-Section. Or set it manually.

    Can you check in your Render Settings if Render to RIB is accidentally turned on?
    You have to scroll down.
    It should be off.

    Hello everyone!

    Thanks for all your help! I've tried everything you all suggested. I tried rendering through a camera, adding a distant light. Render to RIB is not activating. I wish I knew more about what I was doing to help narrow it down. I've tried both Camera and Viewpoint.

    Go to Help > About Plugins and post a screenshot of the top part of the list (3Delight should be the first item on the list).

    Yep...

    And according to that, it's working...or at least loading properly.

    Well, maybe this is more information. It takes about 8 seconds to be 'done rendering' and giving me a black image. I've read that it should be taking a lot longer than that. I have a quad core processor and an awesome graphics card so I doubt its my computer.

    I've been searching all day for an answer, and trying everything I can think of. There are even forum titles with similar problems, but they're old and archived, and I can't access them.

    Video card doesn't matter...3Delight doesn't use it.

    Go to Help > Troubleshooting > View Log.

    Then, when the log file is open, do a ctrl-a and deleted everything. Save it. Then start a render. After it is finished, open the log back up and post what it says...

    Do you have the Default Lights and Shaders content package for DS installed?

    Well...tdlmake isn't running for some reason, which means none of the supposedly 'optimized' textures are being found. This could be due to this error '3Delight message #143 (Severity 2): P1029: cannot find display driver ‘S:/DAZ/displays/bitmap.dpy’'.

    Have you always had Studio installed to S: drive? or did you recently move it there?

    Is bitmap.dpy actually in that folder?

    You know what, I can't even find some of these files it's looking for. I did install it on S, but maybe something went wrong. I think I will uninstall, reinstall, and get back to you. Thanks for your help so far - check back in soon.

    Hello everyone!

    I reinstalled DAZ Studio, and now everything seems to be rendering fine. Thank you all for your help in identifying that it was some missing files. I'm not sure I would have reinstalled it otherwise. So far, I'm pleasantly surprised by this community, and I'll be sure to show the same vigorous attention to someone else's problem in the future (once I learn a little more first!) :D

    I think I'm going to start asking for log stuff earlier in posts like this...the missing displays, in particular, would have been impossible to spot otherwise.
