can I add characters to background?

Hey everyone!

So I'm working with backgrounds and multiple characters for the first time and I have a question (coulnd't find an answer on google but I may be asking the wrong question). Can I merge the characters into the background after they're done? Meaning... Can I create Char1 with pose, hair, outfit, etc and save in some way then create Char2 the same way and so on and THEN when they are all done just create/open the background and thrown them all in there?
It just seems strange that I would have to create everything in the same file because that would be ridiculously heavy for the pc and take forever to move around and change things...

Thanks as always! :)

  • You can just not in DS. You create seperate canvasses for each "layer" and then composite them together in photoshop or the like.

I feared you'd say that... Thankfully I have 8y of Photoshop because this is definitely something daz should be able to do :( Thanks!
  • Not exactly. I may have misunderstood what yopu want.

If you want to render each character seperately and then merge the renders that is what I described.

If you want to load individual chaacters in the same scene and just render the whole thing that is trivial. Create the scene and just merge the characters into the scene. Then move and pose each one as desired.

Ah yes! That's what I want :) my question is how do I save the characters? Say... I make a female with all the things I want and then save as... what? So I can then import her/merge her into the background with all the other characters.

There are two different answers to this question: you can save the character as a scene, which you then "merge" into the scene; alternately, you could save the character as a character preset, their clothing, hair, etc. as a wearable preset, and so on (or save all of it as a scene subset), and then simply add those into the scene the same way you would with any other product.

I will try that! Thank you so much guys! =D

Ah, you're asking about File>Save As>Scene Subeset. Just uncheck the bits you don't want to save.
