Is there a way to "un-dforce" an object, such as a hair, so it can be used in an earlier version of DS? In DS4.11, I get "grey blockhead" when loading a dforce hair.

If it's the new strand based dforce hair it only works in the latest DS because of the tech and that tech is not in 4.11.
To be more specific, dForce hair doesn't have any actual geometry; the hairs are generated by the dForce hair engine itself. It may or may not be possible to export dForce hair from 4.11 or later and import it as an object into an earlier version, but I haven't tried it myself, and haven't kept up with any discussions along those lines.
