Daz3D not recognising / finding content downloaded from ShareCG.com [Solved]

Hi all

Another newb-like query from me.

I've downloaded a couple of models by The Vanishing Point on shareCG.com.

TVP's instructions for installation are pretty clear in his enclosed text file: I basically need to copy folders of files to various loactions within my Daz Content folder (which in my case is on an external RAID system). Specifically, I need to copy things into Data, Props and Runtime.

I've done this several different times and launched Daz, but nothing is appearing under Props (which is where TVP says the model should be located).

It may be famous last words, but I'm certain I'm copying things to the correct loactions.

My Daz install is running perfectly well for everything else.

Anyone care to take a guess as to where I'm going wrong?

FYI: I'm running Daz 4.12.0.86 on an iMac running MacOS 10.15.3 (Catalina).

Any guidance or suggestions appreciated.

  • Where are files from the zip now (choose one as an example), and which folder in the path is the actual content directory set in DS?

    Hi Richard

The specific model I grabbed was this: Viper MKII

According to TVPs instructions, I should do the following:

Extract the files into the specified folders:
Put the dsf file into \data\VanishingPoint\BattlestarGalactica\ViperMKII\
Put the duf/ png into \Props\BattlestarGalactica\
Put the jpg files (textures) into \Runtime\Textures\JHoagland\BattlestarGalactica\

My Daz content lives on the following path: Volumes/RAIDName/DESIGNRESOURCES/DAZ3D/CONTENT

Under CONTENT live all the expected enclosing folders (Data, Props, Runtime, etc).

And it's into those that I've put the content from TVP.

Is that the info you needed?

  • And it's Content, not Daz 3D, that is the content directory? If so the files shoudl show in the Content Library pane under Daz Studio Formats>Content>Props>BattlestarGalactica

    Hi Richard

Correct. Daz3D lives in its default install location in the applications folder on my Mac.

BTW: attached are my current views for the two content tabs on my installation.

    Hi Richard

Is it possible Daz isn't indexing the content, or something?

That's a totally random question, but just wondering is something else needs to happen for the app to see the new model / files?

You won't find those files in smart content, they don't have metadata for the content management system.
You should be able to find them via the Content library tab, though.

    Hi Leana

Thank you so much: I've found the model!

Next thing to overcome is missing texture warnings...

    Oyy!
