Cutout Opacity with other tile numbers

Hi everyone. Is there a way to give the cutout opacity channel a different tiling than the diffuse channel?

thanks

  • If you click the image selection menu button, the micro-thumbnail to the left of the control, one of the entries at the top of the menu is Image Editor. That allows you to set tiling for the image (which applies wherever the image is used) in addition to the surface setting. This is possible only with the Iray Uber Base shader, however (altough a simlar option, as a shader property, could be added in Shader Mixer).

  • Thanks Richard, but  I guess I'm still doing something wrong. I created a plane and applied the Iray ceramic tiles small shader. Next I converted it to uber by clicking that shader. Then I clicked on the small preview pic next to the slider and selected Image editor (I believe that's where you meant me to click). I switch to the instance tiling tab and can see 4 sliders H Tiles V Tiles and the offsets. If I change the tiling sliders, however, nothing happens. Am I doing something wrong?

What did you change the opacity map instance tiling values to? You need to change them to the reciprocal of the tiling value that is applied to the shader in general. So if you set the shader horizontal and vertical tiling to 4, you need to set the instance tiling to 1/4. You don't need to compute the decimal value of 1/4, you can just type in 1/4 (or 1/whatever number your tiling is set to).

Did you render to look at the result? The change isn't visible in the preview....
