dForce is not with me, Luke

I'm embarking on a project in which I think I'm going to need to use dForce clothing, and I have some n00b questions about it. By n00b, I do mean N00B, because I haven't used it before.

So here's what I'm trying to do:

1. I have a female character who I want to be able to put into many different "setting" scenes, with many wardrobe changes.

2. I want to be able to "dress" her in a DAZ scene all by herself, in many different wardrobes—all using the default g8F pose—and save each wardrobe change as its own DAZ scene (or subscene) that I can then merge into different "setting" scenes.

3. I then want to be able to pose her in the various "setting" scenes, and possibly animate her motion somewhat.

So my question is: In my individual "wardrobe change" scenes, can I run the dForce simulation on the basic pose, and have that "hold" when I later merge that character/wardrobe combination into various "setting" scenes?

Be gentle. Remember: n0000000000b!

I do not really follow your idea for the setup.

But for dForce clothing and simulation, it will only fit to the pose for which is was simulated. That can be a single frame, or an animation. I usually uses animation even though it is for a single pose, because it gives me better control of the simulation. So in essence, you will need to simulate using the wanted pose.

I do not know if it gave the answer you were looking for, but if not please elaborate.

  • Yes, the simulation will save with the scene file - but if you change the pose much it will probably look wrong afterwards and need resimulating.

    Thanks for the replies

Yes you can, but there doesn't seem to be a lot of point unless you're actually going to use your character in the A pose in the eventual scene.

I do something similar. I have what feels like 100 custom characters saved with their own dials and tweaks in the default pose, but usually without any clothing outside of jewelery and glasses and stuff like that because most scenes won't use the same exact clothing every time.

Whenver I create a new scene with them I'll create the environment (I believe that is what you are referring to as a "setting"), like an apartment or a street or a bar of whatever then merge the character into the scene.

From there I'll pose and simulate the dforce stuff. If you're worried about dforce simulation speed, you can make things not visible to the simulation in the display dropdown in the Parameters tab with the object selected. That greatly helps speed up simulation speeds.

    Hope this helped!
