Question about NVME Raid and Daz Studio

edited February 2020 in Daz Studio Discussion

does having my pc set up in NVME Raid help with the speed of renders and performance of Daz studio at all?

RAID will (should?) only really affect disc I/O, with different types of RAID having good or (relatively) bad read or write performace (RAID-1 (mirroring) is good for reading, RAID-5 (parity disc) is not so hot on write performance). With that in mind, it will only affect Daz Studio when I/O is peformed, loading 'stuff' (geometry, textures, etc.,) or saving (scene files),or performing swap/virtual memory operations if scene size exceeds physical memory.  In general, teh answer will be 'not really' - it may help you as you build, and save, your scene, but that is about it.

No, the NVME will help with the speed in loading of scenes, saving of scenes, and swapping to disk (if needed but unlikely if your have 32GB or more of system RAM) but it won't speed up renders even one second.

  • A big fat no! The only thing that will speed up Iray renders is a powerful Nvidia video card. To speed up 3delight more cpu cores. Too speed up daz studio perform voodoo and liberal use of chicken blood, or I would suggest a course from Hogwarts school of Magic. Back to reality you need to write a support ticket and ask daz the company to make studio less laggy. Maybe the content library needs to be a seperate program from the main program? This is just a shot in the dark? I don't know what would be required to make it faster I have it on a ssd and that does not speed it up at all. Good luck

  • RAID 1, which is what should be done on a boot device, is faster for reading. That will help in loading the scene onto the GPU at the start opf a render but we're talking about a few seconds difference at most.
