D-Form to clothing not happening when parented to a figure

I'm using V8 and tried to make some d-form adjustments to some clothing that was parented. after trying every possible node and getting a message about needing to have geometry and able to add a d-form to the root of the object that did nothing I was only able to make adjustments by un-parenting the clothing, spawining a morph and then seeing if that morph behaved on the figure once I re-parented it.
Is this the way it's supposed to work now? I never had to do this before, granted I was using CR2 files back then.

I use D-Formers a lot and have never experienced this, that's very weird. What product is it? If I have it I can try to see if I can reproduce it. It might just be a weird one off.

I had to un-parent the jeans to make the dform to display the area of influence (yellow/orange/red regions).
the deformer appears in the node list but does nothing. it will only work if I unparent and deform directly on the root node of the object.
Have you tried setting the dformer field to some absurd scale like 500,000 when its parented to a figure? I've found it can be way off in the middle of nowhere sometimes where its attached to a figure. When that happens I have to adjust it until the dark red is centered on the figure, reduce the scale by 50% and repeat until it's on the figure and the right size.
I did adjust it but not anywhere near that. I'll give it a shot later
it seems when the clothing was inside the figure hierarchy in the scene tab it wouldn't work. If it was outside on it's own but parented to the figure it would . not sure why it would not be consistent. Thanks!
