Container View not showing Products and Categories

After purchasing the DAZ Studio Content Manager tutorial by Ice Dragon Art to learn how to organize my content I am totally stuck because my Container View is missing both the Products and the Categories containers (pic attached).

Could anyone tell me how to get the Categories container to show up or how to set it up if I need to do that?

Also, in the DAZ Documentation Center, I was able to navigate to the Categories container info page but it said I didn't have enough rights to continue. I was able to view the page with that link ( http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/dazstudio/4/referenceguide/interface/panes/content_library/container_view/start ). My regular DAZ Studio sign in info didn't work and I can't figure out if I need a special account for the Documentation Center.

Any help appreciated.

Thank you,

missy

In your screen shot you don't have even the root containers for Categories or Products, so it's clear that the CMS is not running. Do you get an alert on starting DS about needing a PostgreSQL connection? Is PostgreSQL installed? Have you just closed DIM when you launch DS (if so then things can get out of step and you can end up wth PostgreSQL not running)? What security software do you use? Have you - as far as you know - chnaged the content management system settings? Have you ever run DIM or DS "as administrator" on this system - that can cause folder permission issues (so don't try it now if you haven't)? Have you restored your doc uments or database (by default n the AppData folder) from a back up, or transferred from another system (that too can cause permission issues)?

The Docuemntation Centre does not require a sign-in, and that page is visible to me - try again.

    Any help appreciated.

Hi.  I categorize all my stuff too.  So think it's pretty cool you are working towards that.

Did you get it figured out?   As Richard pointed out your install is incomplete.  Both Products and Categories automatically show when everything is working properly.

Have had hit & miss with Daz documentation centre at times.  Got the "don't have permission" several times too.

Tried the "Categories" blue link on the web-page you provided.  I get permission denied there too.  Appears alot of that is WIP and you may have try to access links from multiple directions if possible.

Yes, thank you, the PostgreSQL is definitely the problem.

I have Norton as my security software. My husband helped me create a second location for content purchased outside of DAZ a few months ago but we didn't move or add anything to the Daz content location (we made an entirely new location on a different drive). I also didn't run anything as an administrator as far as I can remember.

I have been reading the forum posts about the PostgreSQL issue. Changing the port didn't work so I am looking at next steps for that issue (seems like quite a few people have run into this issue). I am hoping to fix this though I am due for a computer upgrade to get more RAM and storage so I wouldn't mind if I do end up needing to start completely fresh (but figuring this out will hopefully help me avoid the issue in the future).

Thank you. Yes, I am hoping to speed up my process, I am having a really hard time finding things now that I have over 2,000 items. I am also working to create a digital and printed catalogue that includes the promo pics for each product I own to help me remember what I have and why I bought it (I often just want the skin or makeup from a character but it's easy to forget where it is).

Yes, I am still getting denied on that page but I will poke around and see if I can get there another way.

If you have not already, strong suggestion is to check the directory structures, before you start checking for blockages via Firewalls, permissions, Ports.
    (1) in Daz Windowpane "Content Library">Content Directory Manager>Daz Studio Formats (if using DIM, smartconnect not sure)
    (2) If using DIM, need to make sure those settings match (1) above in the DIM settings.  Essentially you are setting pathing twice with DIM.  Once in DAZ and once in DIM.
    (3) Directory structures for extra content need to be added carefully.  They may impact your main DAZ install if not done correctly, and break CMS connection with wrong paths.

Generally speaking, the DAZ CMS works extremely smooth.  And if you mention you added new directories for 3rd party stuff, I do wonder if the additions threw somethiung out.  Good news is if you hook the directories back in place, it tends to auto-correct itself.

If you want, post screenshots of what your current setups are.  People here can maybe see if there is anything noticeably off.

LOL, your library is in the same range size as mine roughly.  I also made myself (and am still making myself) new images for alot of my content.  Just like you "to help me remember what I have and why I bought it".

In case you are looking for more tips? In addition to categorizing everything, and various image resource tools, also use Visual Menus sold here at DAz Store by Bitwelder.  Can't say enough good things about how you can use the Visual menus and sub-menus for finding things quick.  Takes a bit to set up, but after that workflow really speeds up and is so much easier to find when organized.

    https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/377791/any-thoughts-on-visual-menus#latest

Also, not sure when or if this changed, but by accident found I could save the image associated for each duf to about 850px, so I  skip the extra Tip altogether.  Hover over Duf and you see the big image.

Oh and very IMPORTANT in case it's not included anywhere.  When you do get Categories going, make sure to export the database from time to time.  If CMS ever needs a reset, you don't want to lose all your data.

  • I did get everything working now but I ended up having to reinstall Windows on my computer to fix it.

I did end up finding a set of Iray fabric shaders purchased elsewhere that were installed with my DIM installed products (just that one product and it must have been there since September but I'm sure it could have been causing problems). I found something else that could have been the root problem, the locations I had created on my D drive matched the folder naming structure of the recommended default locations on the C drive. After some digging I found that Daz recommends you don't do that. That was the only other thing I could find that seemed off.

I did attempt to simply fix my folders first and when that didn't work I tried uninstalling and reinstalling DIM and DAZ but that too didn't work so then I backed everything up and reinstalled Windows so I could start out fresh.

This time I chose to keep DIM and DAZ installed in the default C drive locations but my content is set up on my D drive. I also checked the "Delete Package Once Installed" button this time around so the zips won't be taking up all that space. I have posted pics of how I set everything up for this fresh installation. While it's working just fine, I would love to know if anything seems off.

Thank you, Saxa--SD, for the tips. I just purchased the visual menus product.....and about 30 more items that were on sale today too, lol. I will also be sure to export the database periodically when I get my categories set up.

Hey great you got it!  Someties a fresh start is the best isn't it?   And I was LOLing too about the recent crazy DO sales.  So cheap.

Took a peek comparing to my setup.  Looks good TBH.  smiley

See you have not just your 3D data on D-drive, but also your CMS.  That works fine on mine too.  I also have the installed programs on another drive, but they don't take up that much space, so can't see why you won't be good with that.

Only option could think to add is making more separate directories for your other content.  That way you'll be always be clear of origins of data.  Expecially for any changes you make, like adding icons, resaving items with your changes etc.  All you do then is categorize those over from these separate directories over to the DAZ Categories into one bin  however you set up with subfolders.  So you have stuff from DAZ content, your content, and whatever else possbly in the same CAtegorized folder.  This way DAZ data stays DAZ, and your changes are easily backup up because they are in yet a totally different root folder.

Iffin you want to have fun exposure to VM, then any fav poses, recomend throwing them into a VM.  When you see how fast you load find them and load them with VM, lol, you may end up spending more time categorizing than making renders (well for first while anyway).

    Have fun! laugh
