Striped Skin on G2F

I've read through a few previous posts on this problem, one going back to 2014, but I just can't solve it. Rendering in 3DL I've had this problem with both my own G2F characters when I've used Skin Builder or Amazing Skins on them - ie: the skin renders stripy - but I've also had it with some of the Generation 6 Daz characters, but I was always able to solve it by altering the Skin SSS or opting for an alternate skin. In the past it's usually only been on one character, but in a current scene I have two characters out of 5 whose skins are rendering striped I've been totally unable to render correctly despite a gazillion changes. After failing yesterday I reloaded the scene today, made one skin change on one character then did a full render and this time 3 of the 5 characters rendered without bodies so all I had of them was outfits, hair, eyes, teeth and nails, while a 4th rendered flat black! I exited without saving, reloaded and managed to get the sins rendering again, but two of the characters still end up with striped skin regardless of what I try. I finally checked the forums out as I just can't get rid of the stripes, and a minor consensus is that reducing the character's shading rate is a fix, but when I tried it I ended up with even more stipes than previously. So is there anybody out there who had had this problem and found a solid fix? I don't want people guessing as that can end in a lot of wasted time when the guesses don't work.

Another problem I've had with added skins is that I've often found that when changing a pose the torso skin reverts back to it's default (not the arms or anything else), but is there another fix besides redoing the skin?

  • The other SSS - Stripy Skin Syndrome - now goes into the endless 'Mysteries of the Universe' list. Some say it's the digital version or coronavirus, But nah! That's just too far-fetched!

Not a virus, just one of the many glitches when dealing with 3Delight. The striped skin, the all white skin, the crashing after optimizing images. And so on and so forth. There're a few fixes to this problem, one of which you mentioned. Changing the Shading Rate can be one. Another way is changing the Group ID to a different number. I find these two changes can be hit or miss. What I do is increase the Pixel Size in the Render Settings. Lets say you have a pic with an Aspect Ratio of 1.0 x 1.0. You'd want a Pixel Size of about 920 x 920. Or 1080 x 1080. Basically the larger the picture, the less likely the Striped Skin. As long as your chacters are in the center of your pic. Any characters you have farther away in the background will probably suffer the SSS syndrome.yes

Thanks for all of the above. I finally solved the problem I had with stripy skins on 2 characters, but I put it down more to fluke than there being a single fix for the problem. Re changing the size of the composition I've found that sometimes skins which turn out stripy on a spot render don't on a full render, regardless of the size, or sometimes they don't; and sometimes skins which render perfectly as a spot render appear stripy on a full scale render. Re the composition I've been working on 1 of the 2 characters which was rendering stripy ceased to on a spot render after altering the Group ID, but then the stripes were worse on the full render (4000 x 2500 pixels). Changing the shading rate on both characters only made the stripes worse. But a baffler re 1 character was that on using the surface selection tool I could select and change settings for any surface in the set except that character's skin! It was as if the programme couldn't see that there was a character there and thus clicking on bare parts of the body would sometimes select the nearest clothing, but more often than not selected the background, while when clicking on the face the hair was always selected. Doing the same on 5 other characters in the set the body was always selected, so there's some kind of a glitch happening with that 1 character. The final solve for that was to change the skin material to that of another, which still resulted in stripes, though less, and then to use an Amazing Skins material over that; while the fix for the other character was just to use an Amazing Skin. But I suspect that both times it was more happy accident than anything else as I've previously tried using Amazing Skins and/or Skin Builder over the original or added skin and its not worked.
