Creating a 'New' Character from Existing One, while keeping Existing One?

If I have a current character, lets say "Victoria for Genesis 8", and I want to 'duplicate' most of her, but change some of the underlying image maps (as well as morphs), and save her as Victoria's sister "Lilith", is there a way to save her as an actual new character, not just as a scene/subscene?
As in, a new character that shows up separately in the Genesis 8 Female Directory? Even better, in the Smart Content directory?
I know you can save "new" characters as scenes/subscenes with morphs, etc...but I want to modify the underlying imagemaps as well, and have the new character show up in the Directory the same as Victoria and the other Genesis 8 models. Is this possible within Daz3d? Or do I have to duplicate the file folder of the figure outside of Daz 3D, with new names, etc.?

A Character preset will save shape and material settings; it can either be applied to a selected figure (of the right base), or used without a matching figure selected to load a new one.
A character preset will work for what you want I think: it saves the morphs and materials applied to a figure in a preset which can either be applied to an already loaded figure, or used to load a new figure with your character applied. That's what is usually used for commercial characters.
