Best method to get G3 wearing the 'skin' of a G8 character?

So we have products to transfer/convert the morphs across generations.

I also see UV products to get G8 to wear the G3 textures/skins/materials.

What's the best method to get a G3 character to use the Materials of a G8 character?

--------------

And after reading about the models using the same UV sets, is there any way to bypass and get the G3 character to load the materials right from the Smart Content pane?

Like, as in, double-clicking different materials and have them load or apply them to the surface- in the surface pane.....

OR load a materials preset from a different generation?

Hmmmm, how are we doing this?

Not straight from Smart Content, at least as far as I've been able to figure out, but what I've done in the past is just load the G8 character into the scene, select all surfaces and copy/paste to the target G3.

I just save the skin as a material preset and it applies fine to either genesis figure

G3 and G8 have the same base UV, so as long as your character is using that, it will transfer over just fine. If the character you want to use has an hierarchical preset blocking you, save it as a material preset first and then it will load fine. I honestly don't get why some skin sets are hierarchical...it's annoying af.

You can load from Smart Content, I do it all the time (however mostly to get G3 skins onto G8). All you have to do is unclick Filter By Context option. After that go into Materials/Iray. Since there are very few Genesis 1 or 2 characters with Iray settings then almost all the skins under Materials/Iray will be G3 or G8 and they are mostly compatible with each other.

If you do not have the product for the non-base G3 UVs (ie V7, O7 etc) then you can not use V7 etc skins on G8, but otherwise it should work.

I'm too lazy to save presets, so I usually load the G3 and G8 and apply the skin to the G8, then use the materials tab to just copy them from G8 to G3 wink

This is because G8F has seperate eyelashes and the hierarchical material presets set both the body and the eyelash textures. This is why just highlighting G8F and saving a material preset works as you are omitting the eyelashes.
