4.12 Update, keeps crashing

After updating to 4.12, EVERY file I have is constantly crashing, DForce is failing repeatedly. Changing light settings is causing the program to crash. Files are becoming corrupt or flat out disappearing. Is anyone else having these issues? I'm aout to be done with DAZ at this point as I'm losing everything I've spent the last twelve years working on. So many of my files have suddenly become corrupt and the ONLY change to my PC as the update a month ago.

No problems here. It sounds like you might have a hard drive about to die. If that's not the problem, I would suspect a corrupt download/install of DS.

No problems here as well, with either the Production or Beta versions. Agree with Dustrider, sounds like a hard drive starting to fail.

I would check your video driver too if using a nVidia graphics card.

  • My computer itself is fine. It deals with everything else, using nVidia without any issues. It's specifically and only DAZ that is giving me issues. Now I"m seeing a lot of complaints on the forum about other users having the exact issue after the newest update.

Could you point us to the thread you are referencing? I've seen a thread where people are getting crashes, but no data loss like you describe. Their crashes are most likely due to video card driver issues. Sometimes Nvidia divers don't update properly, requiring complete removal and re-installation (other software typically won't have issues if they don't need the updated drives too). Because you are experiencing data loss, not just crashes, is why I felt it might be a indications of a failing hard drive, If you have a mechanical drive, you could have some sectors going bad (possibly a minor hard drive head crash causing it), and if the drive isn't storing/using data in those areas for the other programs, you might not notice issues until the problem gets more wide spread (could be tomorrow, or months from now). There are free drive health checking utilities available on the web (usually you can get one from the drive manufacturer). Even though you aren't experiencing problems with other software, it might be worth it to run a health check on your drive(s) just for peace of mind. Data loss is usually a sign of a system issue. I have gotten corrupt files, and odd crashes with failing memory (ram) chips too, this can be much more difficult to diagnose, unless you can find a good free memory checking utility (I haven't needed to do this in years).

The only other logical explanation I can think of for loosing data is a corrupt DS installation. The program crashing or not rendering with the video card may be due to the graphics card drivers not being updated. You need to update the directly to Nvidia to update your drivers, and Windows update will not install the newer drivers needed for Iray/DS. DAZ also recommends that you install the "studio" drivers. They are designed for use in rendering/content creation. However they won't work as well with games if your into gaming.

Sorry I can't be of more help. I've been using 4.12 since it first came out in Beta (and primarily use the beta versions), and haven't experienced any data loss, and seldom have any crashes (of course the once or twice it crashed over the many months I've used it, I lost all edits in the scene I was working on, but the original scene was not corrupt).

@Raiden1423 "My computer itself is fine. It deals with everything else, using nVidia without any issues."

You're not listening. The potential driver issue is with Nvidia Iray, not with the Nvidia driver for games or general usage. The Iray implementation in Studio is direct from Nvidia. I agree with Dustrider, people arene't reporting data losses. Further, some set of people get crashes with every release.
