I'm new to Daz and when I render, I lose all the cool lighting I had in the viewport window - the figure is defined but in a white environment. Can't figure what button keeps the lighting the same from my original idea
If you are using Texture Shaded mode in the preview (which is the default) then objects aren't casting shadows, which they will be in an Iray render. However, I'm not sure why the environment would be white. It might help to show a screen shot of the previe and a rnder (make sure the figure is clothed).
I think you have the HDR doem on - go to the Editor tab of Render Settings and in the Enviroment group set the Environment Mode to Scene Only, that will limit you to only the lights in the scene. You may well need to make adjustments in the Tone Mapping group too, though it is not going to be an exact match for Texture Shaded mode whatever you set as Iray is doing a lot more things than the OpenGL preview.
I think you solved it. Thanks so much. One last question - is there a quick way of speeding up the rendering? I just use it for reference in my paintings and I don't need it finely detailed.
@Grayv You can first change the pixel size in the render settings to 720 oe less, that will give you a smaller canvas, but faster render. Also under the render settings you can change the sample size from the defult of 5000 down to like 1200. That will speed the render right along, but again, you will lose quality. I'm sure more experienced members will be able to help with better advice. Cheers.

Here's what I get. Also the screenshot on what I want
