Strand-Based Hair ... How can I make it wavy?

I've been playing with Strand-Based Hair for a few days now. It's easy to do straight hair. It's easy to do very curly hair. But I haven't yet found a way to do tousled, wavy hair.

I want to make something like the Meg Ryan Curly Hair here (Style #1). Note the loose, S-curl waves along the lengths of the strands. That's what I can't find a way to do.

Any ideas?
