Shoes turn into chicken's feet

Hi there!

I've got a little issue regarding shoes, I'm trying to fit them onto the feet of an alien which has one toe "missing" on each foot -turns out he Actually does have the toe, just very, very tiny..  Anyways, the alien is called "HyGrey for Genesis 3 Male" and I am quite pleased with it, however when it comes to fitting some shoes ....the shoes seem to follow the shape of the toes, instead of keeping their original shape like a regular shoe would do in our reality.

I have read on another thread that it could be to do with "Fit to" so I have set it to None, and not parented, but the shoes still seem to deform..

I tried fitting another pair without parenting or fitting, scaled and fitted manually and they do seem to hold up so far.

Initially we noticed it happening after trying out selecting the figure and all nodes to select edit-figure->Limits Off , could this have been the cause? And can it be reversed? I kinda liked the shoes as they went with the rest of the outfit.. Also fitting to the figure using "Fit to" seems handy when doing poses, so I wonder if it can still be used, any suggestions/ solutions are more than welcome!

Thanks

  • If the shoes don't have their own version of a shape that is appled to the figure to which they are fitted then DS will project the shape into the fitted item - with, as you see, variable results. One option is to unfit the shoes, then go to Edit>Figure>Clear Generated Morphs (to get rid of the auto-generated morph); select the base figure, find the slider for the shpae you are having issues with, click the gear on the right of the slider, select Parameetr Settings, and copy the Name (not the label); select the shoes, right-click in the Parameters pane and check Edit Mode (assuming it isn't), then right-click in an out of the way group and select Create New Property, paste in the name you copied from the shape, and click Accept. Now when you fit the shoes to the figure DS will see that the shoes have a property with the correct name, so it won't project a new shape - you can then experiment with scaling, any morphs built into the shoes, dForms, or a Push Modifier to get the shoes to fit cleanly over the modified feet.

  • Thank you so much for your excellent advice. It has solved the issue so far, however I was struggling to find the slider you mentioned for the shape I'm having issues with. Is it within the Parameters tab and would this be a slider with the toes?

    Thanks again
