HDR scene problems (SOLVED)

ElettrodadoElettrodado Posts: 76

Hello,

I am not sure if this is the right section of the forum.. however, please look at the attached pictures.. It is an HDR environment setup. I am quite glad of how realistic it looks, apart from the shadow under the feet of the Yeti.

He seems to be suspended in the air. Of course by lowering him on the Y axis does not help. How would you solve it?

Thanks.

Try changing Ground Position Mode under the Environment Tab from Auto to Manual.

Thanks! So, with manual position I can raise the "ground plane" on the Y axis. Thanks again.

You don't have to, just lower the Yeti. You can even have his feet sunk into the 'snow' that way :) If you raise the ground you might have to raise other objects in the scene that end up below the ground.

Anyone know why that is?  I just routinely set it to manual.

Because the bottom of the surrounding box for the object isn't the bottom of the object so it sits above the ground. On Auto if you move the object down the ground moves to keep the object, as it sees it, on the ground. Changing the ground to manual means the ground stays still and the object can then be lowered. When using a HDR image with water you can lower the object until part of it is below the level of the ground and it looks as if it is standing in the water. On Auto the ground would just keep lowering and would keep the object on top of the water.
