Hello again! Just wondering if Daz can read a library of an external hard drive? Not sure how many gigs all my old stuff adds up to, and wondering if I canuse an external to store the library (or move the libraty to an extenral if I run outta room) oh and also to keep the lbrary safe if my laptop melts to molten slag. o_O

Make sure they are fast (the speed of the different external drives can vary a lot), otherwise it should work fine. I have two external drives, one for the library, one for the downloaded zips.
Sweet thank you! Also yes I'm on the hunt for an external right now and speed will be a definate must. ^_^
I have a large external hard drive dedicated to my Daz library, and it works great. You just have to assign it correctly in the DB manager in Daz, and in DIM.
On caveat from someone who bears scars: Have a really effective, efficient, and frequent backup system for it. I'm on Mac, using Time Machine, and fortunately it now backs up quite frequently. Not many operating systems ago, it left it up to me how frequently, and ...
Well, never mind the horror story.
If you're going to keep all the zip files, as Ati says, you will need vast storage, and a backup system large enough to contain ALL of it. I had to give up on trying to keep all the zips; I rely on the backup of my Daz library if disaster should ever strike again.

With speed being the factor you’re going to want an external SSD, an external HDD will be incredibly slower. If you need something really insanely fast, you can get a Thunderbolt-3 SSD but it requires your device to have a Thunderbolt3 interface/port. If you’re looking for something like a 1TB sized external SSD, that’s more than twice as fast as most of the ones labeled “Fast” on the market and about the same price, here’s the one I got and it works great for me:

To get the high speed though you have to be using usb 3.1 or 3.2 (cable is included) but make sure you connect to a usb 3.1/3.2 port on your device… or you’ll see a major drop in speed.
