Daz Studio Not Responding While Opening Files/Black Screen Computer Freeze While Rendering

Though I’ve seen this topic or similar in a buncha places and posted about this in the Beta thread, I have not found any worthwhile advice or working solutions. That’s not to say that others haven’t found a resolve but nothing has worked for me. I’ve also seen a number of threads where people thought they had fixed it only to have all the woe return at some, usually not that very long, after they had celebrated the fix that didn’t fix.
I don’t want to sound crass to anyone who may be offer advice cuz obviously I need it, I’m frikkin desperate for it, but I just want to state at the outset that I reject that it’s a hardware problem, or as someone replied elsewhere, that maybe the new features might be so frikkin awesome that my machine might not be able to handle it. My machine could use some upgrades, and I’ve actually made some already in trying to fix this brutal crippling issue. And I do want to make sure I don’t over represent myself or my abilities, but I consider myself to be at least a marginal idiot and not a complete one. So when time after time I read generic platitudes such as “sounds like a hardware issue” I think it’s often a bit of a cop out. It’s only less slightly less offensive than “Try reinstalling Windows.” Sometimes it can be hardware issues, sometimes actually reinstalling Windows can help, but it’s rare, rare enough that it shouldn’t be the go-to. I’m going to go out on a limb here and guestimate that the percentage of times someone took that advice, a good 80-90% of the time they come back and report that it didn’t work, or it seemed to work and came back. And if it isn’t apparent already, that doesn’t mean it actually worked in that last 10-20%, which could almost justify the advice to begin with, more often then not the person just doesn’t reply. I know for me with this in the Beta thread, I just let it drop, I half gave up half didn’t want to completely derail the thread.
That’s a lotta drivel before even delving into the issue or what I’ve tried, if I’m pissy it’s cuz I’m just exasperated. I just wanna be creating and for nearly a month now, due to these issues, I haven’t been able to and it’s killin me.
Okay, right, lets get to it. As others have reported elsewhere, when I attempt to open a project Daz3d will stall and any clicks on it will result in the Windows dialog “not responding” popup with the option to close the program. Often then Daz3d will get that white crash look and continue to hang. It may take an hour or more to open if it opens at all. The other issue is with rendering wherein at some point it’ll act similar as to what I just described but with the added punch in the head of the monitors often going black, more as if they had been turned off then just turning the color black. With dual monitors sometimes the secondary would come back, sometimes after a little longer the primary would also come back. Sometimes the system would just crash and reboot. Worth pointing out, I have zero issues with any other program, graphics, 3d, or otherwise. I can have Photoshop open while editing a massive 4k video project with tons of effects and have countless other programs running simultaneously, Firefox, Office, Email, and play a frikkin game like Outer Worlds just for funsies. Of course at some point itll chug, drop frames, the usual, but that’s normal, monitors turning off, spontaneous reboot … not so normal.
I’ve run just about every diagnostic program out there and see no issues. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled Daz3d and the installer fresh after deleting all, or at least most, of the residual files and cleaning the registry. I’ve uninstalled a variety of programs that in my head maybe possibly could by some stretch of the imagination caused a conflict in some unreasonable scenario I came up with in my head. Checked all my drivers, made sure everything was up to date, double, triple checked. I have a number of drives on my system. I have a 512 GB Samsung 970 M.2 Pro as my C drive where Daz3d is installed. My second drive is a 2 TB Samsung SSD 860 QV0 which holds all of my Daz3d content. My third is the same except only 1 TB and that’s where I keep all my project files. My fourth is the same as that one which I use for cache, temp, downloads. I just replaced all the SATA cables in trying to troubleshoot this. I have an i7-6700 and, also in trying to fix this, upgraded from 32 gigls of I think it was 2700 RAM to 64gigs of 3200. I have a 980 TI Founders that’s liquid cooled. I was running two Dell monitors that were actually older and had VGA connectors so one was straight VGA the other had a VGA to HDMI. One thread on this issue or exceptionally similar had three people say that they were using dual monitors and for some unknown reason changing monitors helped. In the spirit of that I just bought a new 34 inch HDMI so now only running that. All of this to no avail.
Now I can’t be certain that the rendering issues are connected to the freeze/not responding while opening a project issue but that’s my suspicion. I might mention that on the occasion that a project does open eventually, working in Daz3d is fine, works as expected, can get laggy with large scenes, pretty snappy on smaller ones. Temps are always low though I do notice that while rendering my CPU gets hammered while the GPU seems to be doing little or nothing. I also notice that while rendering it seems like the Ethernet goes a little nuts, no idea what that’s about. I’ve tried switching to “Work Offline” and that didn’t seem to do anything discernable. With the previous memory it’d fill up to the point of sketchiness but so far appears to leave a bit of headroom. Last observation is when opening I don’t see much or any real drive use that I’d expect when opening a project. In the background as I type Daz3d is white and choking stuck on “Deleting Objects” which has never made much sense to me when opening Daz3d and opening a project since there are no objects to delete, there is no scene to be cleared. I assumed, and still do I guess, that this was just a quirk of Daz3d.
That’s about everything relevant that I can think of to include here. If I seem pissy or rude please understand that I’m a fairly a typical starving artist and I’ve gone all in with Daz3d and I’m a good two or three weeks into zero productivity, I’m dead in the water and when I say that I’ve got everything riding on this I mean it literally, painfully so. The new memory, the new monitor, that was my rent that I have no idea how I’m going to replace or where I might be able to beg, borrow, or steal. I’m up to my frikkin neck and with every failed fix it just gets more and more bleak. Not looking for pity and already hate myself for feeling the need to overshare but truly want anyone reading this to understand why I might seem annoyed or aggressive. This is beyond some flame war on Bethesda’s forums because my duffel bag wasn’t made of canvas or some hacker stole all my gear. I just made myself lol so that’s gotta be worth sumthin.
There are a whole lot of posts about this and no consensus on a fix. The common denominator is Daz3d so to the extent that it could might maybe be a hardware issue, it’s a Daz3d issue with the hardware, not the other way around. It needs to be resolved not just for me in my desperation, but for all those that are being affected by this wasting so much time scouring the internet reading pages upon pages upon pages of red herrings and getting nowhere. Though ultimately blameless to me it’s a bit of disservice to the community. I’m begging solely for myself but it’d be nice to track this down and actually solve it and not let it be one of those threads that just fizzle out helping no one. Please? Pretty pretty please with sugar on top? I’ll pay you! After I pay my rent, IF I can pay my rent, right after that, the checks in the mail =/

What security software are you running? If your scenes have figures in them then there are typically a lot of files being read, if the security software is checking every file it may well cause an extreme slow down in loading. The rendering issue may be hardware, specifically heat, as rendering is a very different kind of load from most other tasks.
Just Windows 10 64 default stuffs which I believe I added Daz as safe for the firewall. And I do believe at one point I disabled the firewall entirely to test the theory, not as focused or with the understanding that you just stated but in response to seeing what seemed to be increaced network activity while trying to render. If there's something other than the firewall in security options that you think I should check I'm down to try, all I could think of was firewall.
Dont think it's heat or the card for that matter unless something's terribly awry as I've used a slew of diagnostic and monitoring software endlessly testing. Like I think I mentioned, the GPU is water cooled and doesn't raise any substantial amount and it for the most part stays at 0% in task monitor or other similar tools.

You could test if it's security settings easily.
1)disconnect from the internet entirely to be safe. If you use a wifif dongle, unplug it, if you use ethernet unplug it etc. Not really necessary, but not a bad precaution to take.
2) Go to settings > update and security > windows security > virus and threat protection. Under virus and protection settings, click on manage settings. Turn realtime protection to off(keep open the window to turn it back on after testing DS)
3)Test DS to see if it is running any better. If not, you have at least ruled it out as the culprit
4) Turn realtime protection back on
Just want to say I sympathize. I've got an MSI Workstation that is advertised to run Daz 3D well, and a desktop with a Quadro RTX6000 with 24 gigs of dedicated memory., both bought to try and run DAZ3d well..... and still can barely do anything. I'll be trying this right now.
@TheKD Appreciate the suggestion, just got done testing it and, well, I guess the good news is that we did indeed rule that one out.
@amandainjapan I'm with ya, apparently we've both been allocated to the kids table. Kinda funny that you mention buying a completely new system and it's not working perfect straight out of the box because that's exactly what I had wanted to do but was forced to go the incremental route due to my woeful deficiency in funds. So though I’m sure it’s no comfort, at least ya made me feel better about not going that route! Of course I might have gotten one that worked great but it’s still good for me to hear that it’s not necessarily the magic bullet I thought it would be. Sorry it was at your expense! Hope you get yours going ????

@pxlzXppl Well, turning off the real-time scanning on WIndows Defender did help marginally, the program is still barely usable....
Yeah, it's thousands I really should have put in the "saving for a house downpayment" account, but since it's my main creative outlet right now and I'm on computers at home all day for work, I figured I could also use them for work....
::sigh:: like, a dual-cpu workstation with a flipping $3000 graphics card with more memory than I ever thought imaginable..... isn't enough?????? ::headdesk::
So I saw this thread and it seems to me like it could possibly maybe be at least in part the source for some of the issues I’m having and a potential cure for the eight simultaneous migraine headaches that erupt every time I try to work in Daz3d.
The only problem with the solution to the problem is that I have no, zero, zip, zilch, idea of what they’re talking about and thusfar my opening question has gone unanswered sooooo … yea, two aspirin per headache … sixteen aspirin ….......... aspirin doesn’t work on migraines … f*k …=/

P.S. Ops! Forgot the link!

Okay so this is just sheer unadulterated madeness. I have been trying to figure this stuff out for a good 12-14 hours a day for the last week. No telling how many threads I've read though, how many times I've uninstalled, reinstalled, combing though the log, make more changes ... and tonight, cleared the log, had a new sceen, dropped in a character, waited an hour. Opened the notes and skimming em I had half a mind to copy/paste just the ones that were "2020-03-13 23:58:53.251 WARNING: ..\..\..\..\..\src\sdksource\fileinput\dzassetdaz.cpp(1451): Failed to create alias! 020-03-13 23:58:53.251 WARNING: ..\..\..\..\..\src\sdksource\fileinput\dzassetdaz.cpp(7848): Failed to add user alias property to node only to give some perspective as to the extent of this issue which I cannot fathom why Daz has not fixed it. Which I say based on the multiple posts by active members encouraging some to submit their issues.
New project, one charecter, how much is in that log anyway? Whelp, I didn't know, and for as many times as I've looked at logs skimming searching for clues I never caught this monstrosity of brokenheartedness. I copied the entire log, that was cleared before I started this, pasted into word cuz I wanted to see how many pages it'd be ... 2469 pages, mostly of errors. So the warnings that generally say don't cause problems are whats blowing up my system and why projects take hours if not overnight to open.
@Richard Haseltine clearly you are a Daz God, with nearly 60k posts and an apparently unhealthy desire to help people who need it, I need it, desperatly. Not to count anyone else out, please chime in! But there's more going on here that meets the eye and ... I'm in trouble, serious trouble.SXSX got canceled, behind in every bill and think I may have fifty bucks in the bank if I'm lucky. I'm on a string of bad luck that ... I don't know what to do, I'm dead in the water, with no work that pays, no work on my project that has come to mean a lot to me and that I hope might, help.
I am leterally falling apart here and the only thing within my power to do is seemingly nothing. And I cant help but blieve Daz is simply not bringing their A-Game. No clue what to do here, none.

I would hazzard to guess it is a software conflict
I have been also having issues with the previous Nvidia driver in multiple programs and this current one has broken a third party software that I had to use on my computer with only intel graphics instead
another example was Steam Client that broke Shadowplay with one setting
the list of possible things just goes on
and sometimes you just have to disable stuff in start up if they don't play nice together then only use one each boot up
I had to do that with Steam and a few other things
Something you said in your post triggered a memory to something someone else said in theirs so ... if you have loaded certain scripts which ran in any of the scenes you are trying to open, one of them could be causing the problem. I'm speaking of 3rd party scripts.
Rather than trying to keep one large scene file to open, saving several smaller subscenes can be the way to go. Merge them together when/as needed. In any of those scenes avoid having run 3rd party scripts, dForce simulations, etc. Just keep to the basic models, lights, cameras, etc.
As the fanbelts go nuts when somethings like renders and simulations happen over here, I tend to make morphs of simulations - saving the morph for the clothing items. Then simulations don't need to be saved/run in/for the saved scene files.
.................
"just in case" ... NVidia does have Studio drivers for our cards, downloadable from their website.
