Is there an easy way to edit or modify an existing content library preset?
I made a material preset, but I forgot to include a texture for top coat weight. This means I have to make a new material preset and re-select all the other surface settings all over again which is a very tedious process.
Is there anyway to edit or append extra surface settings to an existing preset, so I don't have to re-select all the settings already present in the preset? Keep in mind the keyword EASY, because I understand I can edit the duf files in notepad++, but sometimes that's very complex and I dont' want to waste time doing that, because I already have an long list of things I need to do.
Is there something like this:
1. Select Material Preset
2. Click Edit
3. Add the surface setting you forgot to add
4. Click Save
Comments
1. Apply your incomplete material preset.
2. Add the missing texture to Top Coat Weight.
3. Save as a Material Preset (overwrite the existing one)
I don't want to save every material setting though, only a select few. If I did what you said, it would save ALL the settings of the material, instead of just the ones I want.
I only want it to remember the map settings from the surfaces: Torso & Legs
- base color image map
- translucency color map
- dual lobe specular reflectivity map
- base bump map
- normal map
I want to append
- top coat weight map
Without having to reselect all those settings from Torso & Legs, which is a time consuming process.
There has to be some way to EDIT an existing preset, in which it opens the material selection window with all the existing settings automatically selected for you, then from there you can simply add a check to the settings you want to add, then click save.
Each surface of the figure will have its own group of settings in the material preset. You can save all or any subset of surfaces and channels, if you want to, say, add something to an existing material setting without changing any other settings. You get to that dialog after picking a filename and location (it should be before, in my opinion) for the material preset when you want to save it.
Yes, but no matter what you have to manually select or unselect settings you don't want which is a time consuming process.
I'm looking for a way to edit an existing preset, which means all the existing settings in that preset are preloaded into the selection menu, then I simply add ONE checkmark for the setting I forgot to add, without selecting or unselecting any other settings since they're already set (edit mode).
Your suggestion means I have to re-create the preset from scratch, going through and selecting and de-selecting what I want, even if I use check modified only. I'm looking to avoid this tedious process through a way to edit the preset instead of re-creating it from scratch.
If you apply the existing preset to something, it will load all the settings you have already saved. If you add the missing texture map and save it again, it will save what you just loaded with the new bitmap. I don't understand what the problem is. Are you trying to preserve other settings while loading only a few select ones? If so, I don't see an EASY way to do it without re-selecting only the parts you want to keep. Maybe some materials guru can enlighten us.
Here's the problem. This is my existing preset:
G8F Torso & Leg Surface
- base color image map
- translucency color map
- dual lobe specular reflectivity map
- base bump map
- normal map
10 nodes, that's it. 10 TOTAL and nothing else.
Now, I apply this preset to Genesis 8 Female, like you said, right?
Okay, now I set the missing map on Genesis 8 Female. Now let's save the new material right?
When I go to save a new material, ALL of Genesis 8's materials are checked by default. This means I have to deselect ALL of the settings using uncheck all, then I have to navigate to Torso & Legs surface, then manually check the following settings, which is extremely tedious:
- base color image map
- translucency color map
- dual lobe specular reflectivity map
- base bump map
- normal map
Then add the one I forgot to add:
- top coat weight map
.. See? I have to RESELECT everything from scratch and that's what I"m trying to avoid. There has to be some way to edit an existing preset, in which all the nodes are auto filled in the selection screen, then I simply append the one weight map I forgot to add.
Okay, I thought that was what you were trying to do, but, as I said, I don't know of any EASY way to do it. You could save two different full presets, one with and one without the missing bitmap and compare the two in a text editor (like notepad++). Keep the differences (which would be the missing bitmap), and splice that manually into the one you want to modify.
This was in my original post:
I'm trying to avoid that. I could do it, but every time I have to do something like that, it wastes a lot of time.
Material duf files are more complex to edit when maps are involved. I could, but i have so much to do, it's just too much.
You can start over, edit the .duf file, or wait for someone to come up with an easier, faster solution. Your call.
I really need a solution for this. I need to be able to rapidly edit and save presets, not be forced to re-make them from scratch or edit in notepad if I want to make one change.
Would this work? Preset Cleaner
It is an older product. I don't know if it would be compatible with the current DUF format or not. Maybe worth a look. You have 30 days to return it if it doesn't work for you.
