While it may be possible, in principle, to create a suitable set of files it isn't remotely practical and I don't think anyone has figured out how to do it (or tried, if they have any sense). The cheapest route would probably be to commission it from a PA who works with Martin, or from Martin directly, but that might not be easy to arrange and would not be absolutely cheap, even if the item had potential as a store product. A more realistic option might be to export skirt and wearer as OBJ files, drape the skirt in an application with a general cloth sim, and import the result back into DS for rendering.

with idea to render gn/g2 sequences in ds,
bought the animate lite tutorial for ds. wanna use dynamicified cloth hair and skirts and robes.

dragon and terrain fly over renders in Ca. carrara doesn't do softbody?

space ships and the like in Poser, since the nightshift / kibaretto stuff comes firefly ready.

    was the idea.

    http://www.optitex-dynamiccloth.com/FreebieDownload01.php
Pages 3, 5, 9, 10, 11, and15 all have skirts.. The basic dynamic plug in comes with DS.

The one on page 15 is for Genesis, the one before are all V4 I think. You can use V4 ones easily on Gen/G2 if you parent the item to the hip and do an animated drape rather than conforming and doing single frame drape.

thanks. those freebies got me started on this path of animating in ds.

wanting use my own creations in my movie.

 i can concatenate strings in sql like a pro. if i knew the format and syntax.

so, it's soo proprietary no one can use ... of course it is. siggggggggh

No. When the Optitex stuff first appeared, they initially talked about one, but it never appeared. Likewise, when the people who made Marvelous Designer 2 made a post about it in the old forums, they promised a plugin that has never appeared. That software has moved on to a new version and those of us who bought the original license never got the promised plugin. At first they claimed that DAZ asked them to wait till the SDK for DS4 was done, but then after it was done... nothing.

Alex and Kendall (Look At My Hair fame) are working on a dynamic engine but it's a long way off from being available I'm afraid.

Why don't you send Optitex a PM, Misty? Maybe you guys can work together on something

    Mysty

You are viewing DS and Optitex dynamic clothing the same as you do Poser's. They are in no way the same.

Poser uses single sided mesh objects and a soft body physics engine to create cloth simulations.

Optitex is a commercial clothing pattern creation system. If you look at the texture maps of any of the Optitex clothing, you will see they look like a real life clothing pattern and not like a UV map of a mesh object. The part of the system associated with DS takes the pattern and virtually stitches it together to form a virtual garment that is then draped in the cloth controls of the free player and/or the separate plugin you can buy. Marvelous Designer is similar to Optitex. However, Optitex is a proprietary system and access to it far from cheap.

If you want to know about purchasing the Optitex system, go the Optitex website and sent the an email requesting that a customer service rep contact you with purchasing information.

the cheapest way is Blender and casuals morph series importer
do not ask me, said cheapest not easiest
easiest is Poser and dyntomorph python script to bring into studio as a morphing animated object

dynotopia python? sounds better than nothing :)

Dynamic to Morph python script for Blender. It takes the dynamics and turns them into morphs.

If you don't know Blender, you can take the skirt into the Poser cloth room and create any movement morphs you need. You can then use the skirt with movement morphs as an animated prop in DS as Wendy suggested.

Cararra can do some Softbody dynamics as long as you keep the total polycount under about 250k Tris. The hard part is getting the settings right to give you a good cloth simulation. It can be done, but it is very time consuming to get the settings right. What works for one clothing item and one animation may not (likely will not) work for a different clothing item, or animation.

Keep things simple, use lower poly proxies, adjust one setting at a time, be prepared to spend lots of time on it.

OK, thank you. Was wondering whether this were possible but I understand now DS does not support dynamic clothing unless it is 'OptiTEx-ed'.
