Daz file icons gone wrong

Somehow, ever since I reinstalled my pc brand new and fresh, my DS files (.duf, etc) don't display in explorer with the right icons. Is there a way to repair this?

If it's a window based OS, try right clicking, open with(check the box that says always use or something like that), then navigate to and choose studio. That should make the icons right.

  • When I tried that, it gave my duf's the same icon as that of the DS executable.

Isn't that what you wanted? That's what all my duf's always looked like normally.

  • Well, I used to have actual specific icons for DUF, DSI, DSF, and all other daz related formats.

Oh, wow, mine never looked like that. It's like color coded, and seems a lot more useful than a DS icon for everything.

  • Absolutely. I have managed to get the DU to associate to the right icon with FileTypesMan but that also changes all the other types you see in this picture to the same DUF icon.

I'm still looking for a way.

Have you tried Windows Settings -> Apps -> Default Apps -> Choose Default Apps by File Type? That should associate the type with Studio, and registered types should get to the right icon if using the proper source. The registry pulls the icon out using an index. (The Set Defaults by App doesn't list DAZ Studio if you installed it via DIM, at least for me).

  • Ohhhkay. Following your advice, North, I renamed my DS folder, then manually reinstalled the program asi it weren't here. I then removed that "new" DS folder and reinstated my original... it seems to have done the trick for DSB, DUF, DSF, DSB, DSX. but not for DSA and DSE. Hell if I know why...it's still progress. I used the offline installer too, after reading your bit about DIM. Cheers much! :)

Was the executable the same version? If not, the icon index might have changed, or it isn't valid for another version.

  • I'll have to look into it.
