How to set the center of the geometry to the center of the object

Hi,

I imported an object made in Blender into Daz Studio but there is no origin at the center of the object.

Please see the attached file.

How do I move the origin to the center of such a sphere?

Of course I'm exporting in blender with object center set to center.

Best regards.

You can do it direclty in blender (Object / snap / origin to geometry). Then it should be placed correcty when you export it. Eventually, you can also (still in blender) snap cursor to world origin, then object (geometry and origin) to 3D cursor, this way the 0 of the geomety will also be the 0 of the scene.

    Thank you for the reply.

In the blender, it is correctly set to the center of the object.

All objects created so far now have their origin set below the object.

So I think there is a function to set the origin in Daz Studio.

Please tell me if there is a way to move the origin to the center of the object in Daz Studio.

  • Couldn't find automatic solution, so here's the manual version.

    1. Selecct the object.

    2. use the joint editor and Tool settings.

    3. in Tool settings, adjust the Center point xyz positions to place the origin in the center of the object.

  • thank you for your polite answer.

I don't know why the origin changes, but it worked your way.

    Thank you very much.

Another way is to create a Null object, place the Null where you wish the "origin" to be, then set the object as a child of the Null.  Now, just translate the Null as you need and the object will follow.  Added benefit, you can now adjust the "origin" as needed to pivot the object from different locations.  Works for scaling as well, and you can group objects together under the same Null and move them in tandem (using Groups takes too long to parent, so Nulls work better in my opinion).

    I didn't know how.
I will try the test immediately.

When you export from blender, are you exporting with the object's origin at 0,0,0, or are you placing the origin and exporting without setting xyz to 0,0,0 after setting the origin?  I find that it works better when you set the object's location to 0,0,0 after changing the origin.  Hope that helps.

  • some object when imported at odd coods move them to 0,0,0 export and then re-import and they should be at 0

I am having a similar issue, and I get to the above.  The Objects origin is in the center of the object, but then all threads related to this say, "move them to 0,0,0 export and then re-import" , but how do I move the object origin to the daz center?  Do I have to just eyeball it?  I am sure I wont get it exact.  When I snap to grid, the object moves by the origin on its snapping, so thats a problem.

As I read threads, there does not seem to be a function to move Object (using its origin) to Daz 0,0,0  (and yes, if I set 0.0.0 on its x/y/z/translate, it is not at the origin)
