UberEnvironment2 which comes with the current version of DS is an update to UE so you don't need that part of the package.

As far as Omnifreaker products, DS comes with UE, UberArea (same concept as omArea), UberSurface, UberVolume, HumanSurface, and SimpleSurface. They're all in the Default Lights and Shaders package located in your product library and DIM.

I think the light wrapping is just geek-speak for what happens when you turn a surface into an area light. The light will emit from any direction the geometry points. If you turn a sphere into an area light, it will emit light in all directions; turn a plane into an area light, it will point the light in whatever direction the plane is pointing, etc.

Uberarea is essentially a shader to allow in DS what Poser does w/ the ambient channel (cranking it up to allow it to emit light). DS can't by default emit light via the ambient channel.

http://www.daz3d.com/omarealight-light-shader-for-daz-studio is different from the Area Lights included in Daz Studio. One main difference is that it is double sided emitting light from both sides unlike the included Area Plane. Misty this might be of interest to you http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/14536/

I think the light wrapping refers to light from an area source lighting areas that would be shadowed with a point source, so that instead of a hard cut-off between light and shade on a curved surface (even if the shadows are set to be soft) the light tapers off around the curve as more and more of the light-emitting surface is blocked off.

Exactly Richard which I show in my basic Area tutorial.

Oh man I didnt realize UberEnvrionment had all these shaders, I thought it was just a couple preset lights. I have a lot of research to do.

UberEnvironment itself is the lighting dome, the other Uber- stuff are separate shaders that can be used without UE.

Ubersurface2 isn't lights...it's basically a stacked version of the UberSurface surface shader...it gives many more options and allows mixing of things like a 'grunge' layer with the 'base' layer.

    oh. thanks. :)

but, how is that different from what layered image editor does?

The layer image editor literally uses images layered upon one another.

A long time ago (in DAZ years...), there was 30 day trial with some version of DS3...so my memory may not be perfect on this...but it was like the LIE +++ in that it could do more than just images...there's a host of blending between the layer options and a bunch of other fun stuff.

    And Misty...just for you...
