Daz Defaults shader | toon doens't apply properly , an idea ?

Ho all,
I'm making some tries about the toon rendering process on daz, and instead burnign my head in finding complicated solutions, I decided to discover the Daz Defaults Shader , and precisely the Toon one.
I put the Grim armor on a Genesis 8 male (too much poses content for this character , to help me in my project). I follow a tutorial to use these shaders. So I select the part of the armor , go to suface tab , double click on the shaer while maintaining ctrl key, and choose the mode "Ignore", like said.
Launch a render.
TADAAA !
As you can see , the part appears black.
So , I disable the lighting mode for shadow process of the distant light , from deep shadow to nothing. Same.
Instead of using the distance light , I put a spot on the scene, same tries whith the different shadow modes.
K. Same.
So , I decided to not load a the complete figure, with the armor sets on its. And it's rendering properly.
If I'm asking some help , it's because I newer saw this case. The part doesn't render if it's parented ? Oo
Could someone help please ? Thanx a lot !

Which render engine are you using? From memory the Daz default toon shader is one for 3Delight so it will not perform well if using Iray. You can find (and change) which render engine in the Render Settiings dialog (Render> Render Steeings ... or Ctrl-Shift-R - uise Cmd instead of Ctrl if on a Mac).Tight at teh top is a settings named Engien which is next to a drop down box from which lists allavailable render engines. The 'usual' ones you'll consider would ne NVDIA Iray and 3Delight. As initamed above shader/material properties are different for the two, but some default shaders can be translated pretty well (the toon one would not be one of those!).
I'm all rendering under 3DL ,not Iray. My tests are done with a genesis 8 converted figure , and a michael 3 one.
I don't have that armour, but from a quick look at applying the various dzToon??? shaders tio something else it seems to work for me:
Yep It works for me with this armor too. Certainly because it's a unic piece. The armor , and the helmet. I can't explain, but effectively, all the pieces are rendering well when they are not parented with subgroups.
Damn it... There must be a solution ....
I used to get enough baffling stuff when I was at work ... ;)
Let's see if we cannot diagnose this! Get to a situation where it renders 'wrong'. In the Surfaces tab select the offending surface and check the settinmgs carefully. If there is a 'mirror' piece of armour on the other leg try selecting both surfaces and looking at the surfac definitions: they should all have a(2) in front of the property names as they should all be duplicates and none of the settings values should be a <?> (which means the 2 surfaces have different settings). What we are doing here is trying too check that the basics are correct ... If that all looks to be ok, the next step would be the lighting. Keeping all the same try rotating the figure by around 90 degrees and try again and see what happens.
I got that :
The two shins props have differents textures.
the plastic Shader seems to work...
But the "ToonGlossy" doesn't.
So far as I know the toom shaders should give an outline to the surface, it *could* be that the surface is so defined (I am rubbish at this sort of thing!) so that the two outlines merge and thus give the wholly black appearance, which is why the dzPlastic works, the various dzToon??? ones do not.
Yep , that's what I thought too. But playing with toon parameter did nothing....
Its a personnal challenge , you konw. Pure curiosity , I've found an other solution to give the good effect I wanted for my comic book.
But I want ton know :)
A mix between many different thing . I tester the artistic cameras , to give a kind of printing trame , test all the iray toon shaders , etc. But nothing was really good.
But , usually rendering on iRay , I've decided to change for 3DL wich its lights are more compatible with the effect I wanted. And I never noticed the DS Defaults shaders. I got flashed by the idea I could simplify my life using à toon shader for 3DL and go on searching other effects.
That looks pretty good - be aware there are quite a few toon style shader products for 3Delight and one of those may well perform better for you.
They are not a lot... I did not test the pwToon for 3Delight yet....
