3rd Party Content Doesn't Always Show Up
Hello! I'm relatively new to Daz (about 6 months) and the first several months I struggled with being able to afford much quality stuff, so I would look for free stuff to practice with, but rarely found anything I understood how to install. After a while I was able to buy new stuff, practiced, and now I'm ready to see what else is really out there outside of the Daz Shop. In the last two months I've been actively looking for things outside of the Daz Shop to install, to varying degrees of success. Tonight, I downloaded a G3F - G8F pose converter, and watched a tutorial by a Youtube who installed it flawlessly. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BQPOj-N95Qw&t=2120s) I followed the exact same steps as he did, exported to the same directory, opened Daz Studio...and nothing. I work in software support for a living, so I know how file systems work, but anything I install outside of the Install Manager has a 50/50 chance of being available to me. Could I get some assistance? I have paid and free 3rd Party content that I'd like to use. The Daz Shop is greatI'd just like to feel safe buying something from a legitimate retailer and know I can use it.
I've installed to all of the following directories to varying degrees of success:
C:\Users\Public\Documents\My DAZ 3D Library
C:\Users\Public\Documents\My DAZ 3D Library\data\DAZ 3D
C:\Users\(user)\OneDrive\Documents\DAZ 3D\Studio\My Library
C:\Users\(user)\OneDrive\Documents\DAZ 3D\Studio\My Daz Connect Library
C:\Users\(user)\OneDrive\Documents\DAZ 3D\Studio\My Daz Connect Library\data
I've also tried the Content DB Maintenance options, again, to varying degrees of failure or success.
Comments
C:\Users\Public\Documents\My DAZ 3D Library
C:\Users\(user)\OneDrive\Documents\DAZ 3D\Studio\My Library
are the default content directories,
C:\Users\(user)\OneDrive\Documents\DAZ 3D\Studio\My Daz Connect Library
is used for installation from within DS and doesn't appear as a refular content directory. The other paths you quote are sub-folers of content directories. Most often the issue is the zip, if you just unpack it you may end with an extra level inside the content directory - e.g. a Content, My Library, or My Daz 3D Library folder - containing the folders that should have gone directly in the content directory.
When you say "doesn't show up", where are you looking? Most content from 3rd party sites won't appear in smart content tab, as they don't have metadata for it.
Thanks for the reply! I've tried that, for sure, and looked iun both the Content Library as well as the Smart Content folder and it still doesn't show up. Should I export the entire folder directly to \My DAZ 3D Library or the other option? How do I know when to do which?
Apparently I don't know how to quote in forums anymore either, haha.
These are from the links at the video you linked to. If you are talking of another pose converter please to identify it.
data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 8\Female\Morphs\agentunawares\AU G3F Pose Fix
data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 8\Male\Morphs\agentunawares\AU G3M Pose Fix
Install each folder to the appropriate place wherein you have the mesh figures installed.
Under My Library > data > DAZ 3D > Genesis 8 > etc.
Checking the 'group' in a file, looks like they should be showing on the Parameters Panel somewhere under Pose Controls. There are no presets to be showing in either the Contents or Smart Content panels.
