DForce Question - Clothing on zeroed figure explodes unless Start From Memorized Pose is On

Just trying to wrap my head around what some of these settings are doing.

1) Zero figure pose

2) Add a Dforce wind node

3) Simulate and watch clothing explode

But....

If I change initialize from memorized pose from off to on, the clothing reacts normally to the wind.  Does anyone have an explanation for this?  I am just trying to understand the system better so I can fully leverage it.  Thank you for your time.

You don't give a lot of details.  There are no hard and fast rules with dForce.  Some clothing works and looks better with some settings than with others.

More specifically, my question is, what is "start from a memorized pose" doing when the figure is zeroed out with no pose to move from/to? I was expecting the setting to have no impact and the clothing to explode in both cases.

Are you saying that your figure was in the default A-pose, and then there was a difference with between start from memorized pose On/Off?

I've experienced a difference too. My workflow currently is to Sim from the Default Pose but just for Frame 0.  Then, turn that Off and use the timeline range.

I haven't tried other forces yet like wind so I'm curious but try the "Relaxing" step first w/o the wind then enable of couse for the timeline range sim.

Do the attachments below help?  When memorized pose is off, the simulation is unstable.  When it is on, the simulation is stable.  Here is the description of the memorized pose setting pasted from here: https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/203081/dforce-start-here#latest

    • Describes whether or not the simulation should start from the “memorized pose” of articulated objects (i.e., figures) in order to address cases where complex poses adversely affect the starting shape of the simulated object such that it will not provide realistic results when simulated
    • When enabled, articulated objects that are participating in the simulation will begin in their respective default poses and gradually move into their respective target poses, allowing the simulation to better represent the original dimensions of the simulated object

From reading the above, I don't understand why turning on memorized pose would make the simulation stable because the figure/clothing are alredy in their default positions.

When you say "relaxing" step, are you referring to "Initialization Time" or something else?

Sevrin or Felis, does the additional information I provided sufficiently clarify the issue?

One thing you might check (if you haven't already) is that no part of the clothing is intersecting with your character at the start of the simulation. dForce is very sensitive to this issue; it would be extremely useful if DAZ3d added a step before simulation that simply checks if any vertices of the clothing are intersecting with the character (or any other object) and if so gives the user the option of manually or automatically moving the affected vertices outwards. This can be problematic if the clothing is trapped between the character body parts which are also intersecting (for example the hand resting on the body but slightly intersecting it), but at least it would identify the problem.

Thank you for taking the time to respone IsaacNewton, but I am afraid you are answering a different question than the one I asked.

Why does "start from memorized" pose make the simulation stable when the figure and clothing are already in their default/unaltered poses?

Using the memorized pose but only for frame 0.
