Delete Files

I'm amazed that I have to ask this question, but I can't find the answer in any help file.

How do I delete a file and keep Daz from listing a file I have deleted?

I can't find delete file on the menu, so I deleted it through windows explorer.

However, when I used the saved files option on Daz, it still shows an icon for the file, but with a triangle and an exclamation mark.

Since no one has unlimited space, I need to delete some unused files, and it would make thing easier and tidier if Daz recognizes that they're gone.

You need to find the file reference in the Content Library - then the right-click menu should have an option to remove/delete the reference (and you should also be able to delete actual files from the Content Library in the Daz Studio Formats list).

  • The problem is that I can delete them in windows explorer, but the icon, with an asterisk, still shows in Daz.

I was told that if I accessed the file through the content library pane and right clicked, delete would be an option.

    But it's not.

Delete is an option for the folder, but I want to delete individual files, not an entire folder.

Does anyone know how this is done?

    Merged threads.

I should have said, find them in the Categories container in the Content Library pane.

  • I'm in the categories container.

There is only an option for deleting folders.

When I right click on a folder, I get the following options:  Rename, Delte, Create a Subcategory, Create a Subcategory Path, Duplicate Category, Move Category to,  Create a Product from, Refresh.

But for individual files, the choices are: Open as New, Merge into Scene, Remove Orphaned Reference, Remove Reference, Categorize, Group Asset As, Create Link for Asset, Create a Product From, Show Asset In, Browse to File Location, Create a Custom Action, Refresh.

Remove orphaned reference will remove the icon referencing the file, but only after the file has been deleted through windows explorer.

If that's the only way to delete a file, DAZ is the only software I've ever used that didn't have a simple Delete option on the file menu.

Delete Reference was what I was pointing you to, but I thought the whole point was that you had already deleted the file. If you want to delete a file that is present then you find it in the Content Library under Daz Studio Formats (or Poser Formats) and there is a delete option in the right-click menu - but note that this won't delete a whole product, just the user-facing file - any textures or geometries will remain in place.

  • Maybe you can create a file with the same name, type and location of the file you have deleted, and then the file will be placed in the smart content pane in place of the former file. You can delete the new file without any problems.
