Can anyone kindly inform me what is the maximum number of folder DAZ can use for content management?

I've started to re-install all of my content from scratch and have created multiple runtimes along product lines (Victoria 3, Victoria 4, Cars, Buildings, Michael 4, Weapons, etc)..

Once again many thanks for your assistance...

Ken

Shouldn't be a problem as long as you don't go into dozens or more large content folders. There used to be a message (don't know if it still comes up) warning that more than about ten content folders might slow down your system. That was put into the program, though, many years ago when the average home computer was much less powerful than what's available today. I'm fairly sure it also pre-dates the modern content database and Smart Content. Don't worry too much about it — as long as you can still remember how to find what you want to put in your scene, you don't have too much of a content collection...

    ...yet. :smirk:

It really is not Number that can slow your start and loads down. It is Number and Size. The more large folders you have the slower DS will be to start up as it needs to read each content folder. Loads will only slow if you load from one large folder and then try to load from a different folder right after, if both folders are on the same Hard Drive.

But surely there must be at least a recommended maximum number of folders?

At this point, I think the maximum number is more related to how easily you confuse yourself with choices - is this item a set, a scene, or an environment? Is this a vehicle, a prop, or a set? Do you split out folders for each character or for each clothing type - or clothing type by character?

I'm using 15 directories right now and seriously considering cutting 5 out of the list.

I will not say this is 100% correct but I maybe remember 10 was a recommended number at sometime. But I think that was sometime ago now. As in we way beyond that version now, many versions.

IIRC, studio version 2 had a hard limit of ten and studio version 3 issued a warning every time you added another after the first 10.
