Best Work Flow for creating custom textures

edited December 1969 in Daz Studio Discussion

Hi, I want to create textures for M4 because I have all his morphs and stuff, and I can always use the new texture with the newer figures if I change the texture UV's. That's the idea anyway. So, I cant use Texture Atlas to make a single texture because it wont work with the new models.

So, I thought if I were to export as an .obj with the settings in the pic it would get me started. In Hexagon I noticed some issues already as some of the textures were wrong in some way.

Then I thought I'd just find the original textures and make copies. I found the path to the content in Studio under library prefs and used explorer to try and find them. Weird thing is, the folders appear to be empty under C:\Users\USER\Documents\Daz 3D\Studio\My Library (same place they load from in Studio.)

I'm using Win 8.1 and was wondering if this is true for everyone.

Frustrated. I'm always doing tech stuff rather than Art stuff.

I need to get the M4 textures into 3dCoat and create new ones on the same uv set for the reasons stated before. Really will appreciate the help.

I also have Poser9 to use if I can figure out how to get M4 in there. Argh

Go here and download the texture templates...

If you are using 3DCoat you should just be able to import the base obj, which should be in your content folder, in the Runtime\Geometries\DAZPeople\blMilMan_m4b.obj or something similar.

And you really do need to start from a 'blank' slate in order not to infringe on any copyrights for any existing textures...or get a hold of merchant resource set for M4, especially, if at some point you decide to want to distribute anything you make. (Most resource kits don't allow use for making freebie content...)

Even better, if you go here you will find SnowSultans Seam guides, which make it easier to use the templates
