Smart Content disappeared after switching to new hard drive

I recently had to switch all my content to a new hard drive, as my old one failed. I copied everything to the new hard drive through Time Machine on my Mac. Under Content Directory Manager, I thought I pointed Daz to the new location of the files.

When I open Daz, I get a message "A valid PostgreSQL CMS connection could not be established and the Smart Content library is empty. Daz now crashed twice on me.

What do I need to do to get Daz running smoothly again?

Have you tried reinstalling the PostgreSQL CMS?

  • HOw did I do that again?

How did you install DS in the first place, with DIM? If so you should be able to reinstall it with that.

Also, I've read there can be problems with the CMS and folder permissions on Macs, maybe some permissions were lost when the drive was restored?

  • I tried reinstalling PostgreSQL CMS through DIM - but no luck. I am assuming I am not pointing DIM and Daz to the correct folders?

I am not sure. I am attaching a screenshot of DIM's install locations.

It may be permissions on the folders, especially the Content DB Directory - I know that on Windows restoring a back up can lead to permission issues.

  • How could I check on it or fix it?

  • Could somebody please check, if I have DIM and Daz Content Directory Manager set up correctly?

DS isn't even seeing the Content Cluster Directory setting, which strongly suggests a permissions issue (on the path given in Content Database Base in the Install Manager screen shot).

  • HOw can I fix that?

I have to admit that I messed with the settings in Content Directory Manager and DIM, trying to point both applications towards the right Directory. I really need Daz to work again to get some work done. Maybe I should uninstall it and then reinstall it?

Uninstall/reinstall won't touch settings, still less folder permissions. Given that you appear to be using a Mac you might want to look at this thread, where people have had help with simlar issues https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/16599/the-mac-faq#latest
