Disappearing files

I was working on a fle last night. It was saved and opened often at various times yesterday. Now the .duf file has disappeared. The .duf.png file is there, but not the .duf. How can I find the .duf file?

You are looking in the actual folder on disc? Unless you deleted it, or your security software quarantined it for some reason, I'm not sure what you can do (or what may have happened).
All I did was shut down my computer last night. I can't see how that wuld have deleted the file. It was the last thing I worked on last night. I have been working on the project for two days non stop. It was finished and needed one last important tweak which I planned to do this morning and re-render. I don't have security software on this computer. Not feeling good right now. Especially after spending about a hundred bucks on content to get this done.
If you literally saved and shut down it's possible that the file wasn't completely written. I'm afraid I can't see a way to restore it. Do you take regular back ups (e.g. using File Histry)? That might let you recover an earlier version of the file, at least.
Yes but because I had been working furiously on this for two days, sadly it was not backed up.
This is likely lost. I have to accept that. But I would like to know what happened so it doesn't happen again. I have never had anything like this happen with Daz3D or any other program. I will need to brainstorm a way to research this since it is a random occurance.
As I said, it may be that the file was still being written when the system shut down. Other than that it's down to a file system glitch, or security software, or remotyely possible that you didn't save it where you thought for some reason.
nope. I have had this happen several times. hit save. Studio crahes. I reopen the app. the only thing that remains is the .png thumbnail. total pain in the @ss. On an "open", or "open recent" there is nothing remaining. I know someone is going to say back up your stuff. This was version H. That's right, there were versions A-G. I can't back up what isn't saved, and if saving erases the file, then... Just happened again. That's what brought me here. Lost hours of work. Frustration abound
