Pls Help: Hardware specs for complex Iray rendering

I am getting into Daz and intend on using Iray to render complex scenes and even make comic books. I am researching computers to accomplish this and was wondering if the following specs would be enough to accomplish that:

  • 9th Gen Intel® Core™ i7 9700K (8-Core, 12MB Cache, Overclocked up to 4.6GHz across all cores

  • Windows 10 Home, 64-bit, English

  • NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 2080 Ti 11GB GDDR6 (OC Ready)

  • 32GB Dual Channel DDR4 at 2666MHz; up to 64GB (additional memory sold separately)

  • 512GB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD (Boot) + 1TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s (Storage)

Those are good specs. I would suggest a ryzen 7 3800x for pcie gen 4 and 8 more threads.

Pcie gen 4 will provide some future-proofing for next-generation Nvidia cards. The 3800x beats the 9700K in most productivity situations. Also, there seems to be an intel vulnerability almost every week now and usually, the software mitigations come at a cost to performance when performing some tasks.  If you choose to go 3800x, better get ram 32GB Dual Channel DDR4 3666Mhz.

The website where i am ordering my pc from doesnt have the 3800x as an option only intel. Would 9900k core i9 be better?

If you can afford a 9900K then go for it. I made the suggestion of the 3800x because it was a comparable price to the 9700k. The original specs you posted is good enough. I just suggested a way of improving the build at that price point. The 2080ti is the most important spec for iray rendering. Happy rendering and be sure to post some of your work.

I found a different ryzen addition of the pc i was looking at. These are the specs I can afford:

    • AMD Ryzen™ 9 3900 (12-Core, 64MB L3 Cache, Max Boost Clock of 4.4GHz)

    • Windows 10 Home, 64-bit, English

    • NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 2080 Ti 11GB GDDR6 (OC Ready)

    • 32GB Dual Channel HyperX™ FURY DDR4 XMP at 2666MHz

    • 1TB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD

Thats almost exactly my setup, except that I have an i9 9960K.
    The system is a beast.

1- Recommend a closed loop cooler to keep the CPU tame ( I have EVGA 360 CLC )

2- Warning: newer Nvidia drivers cause some people problems.
I had to roll back the Nvidia drivers to Studio Standard v431.86 to get GPU rendering and stop Daz from crashing.

3- Ryzen is more affordable. And the GPU 2080 Ti 11GB will be more important.

If you do go with this setup and have any questions, I'll try to follow this thread for a few days.

Thank you so much. Do you find that you have enough Vram to render complex scenes?

Yes, I am using Daz 4.12 and have not had any problems with "complex scenes".
The 11GB  on the 2080 Ti is very nice.

it really depends on what you consider a complex scene. I have a 2080ti and I have had it drop back to CPU plenty of times when there is just to much in the scene..

That will be fine unless you really crank up the subD

  • After doing some more research i eneded up going with the following:

    • Memory(32 GB [8 GB x4] DDR4-3200 Memory Module - Corsair Vengeance-LPX)
    • Video Card(NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti - 11GB GDDR6
    • Processor(Intel® Core™ i9-9900KF Processor (8x 3.60GHz/16MB L3 Cache))

Will post an update letting you guys know how it works. Thank you so much to everyone who has helped me so far on here! Daz is really a great community
