Eye issues (Dark Eyes)

Hi All,

Having some issue with eyes. First of all, this isn't the classic black sclera issue.

My characters eyes are turning very dark when light is pointing towards them. The character is a G3 converted to G8. I've tried using different eye textures, most behave the same way (both G3 and G8 textures have been tried.)

This is what the character should look like:

And when in direct light:

I've tried playing around with eye settings, but I'm afraid this is not my forte whatsover. The only thing I have been able to do to achieve a reasonable result is change the cutout opacity of  the cornea to 0.5 (was original at 1.0). Gives this result:

Am I missing anything obvious here? Your help is truly appreciated!

  • With Iray, if you have a texture map or any setting in the cutout capacity, the cornea will NOT use refraction. The correct refractive index is about 1.33, thin walled doesn't have to be off to use refraction.

Not sure wether your saying this is a G8 or G3, the G3 can have 2 layers of refraction, one for the cornea and one for the reflection layer, the cornea on the G8 is built into the reflection layer so you only get 1 layer of refraction.

The only way to get eyes like this is by using black glass, which is thin walled off and a small transmitted measuring distance, OR not having any gemometry behind the cornea, which you obviously do have.

Try clearing the opacity, and/or translucency settings, set the correct refraction values, and turn thin walled on.

If your using the top coat make sure the reflection setting isn't weighted, use reflection or fresnel.
