Help needed - Daz Studio scenes not loading properly on new computer
I bought a new laptop and a new external harddrive and moved my content from one external to the other and vise versa computer information i Renamed the external hard drive and everything so everything would load. But when it goes to load my saved scene it ask me to find the runtime that the textures are in. Please help me. I thought things would be fine as my content was on an external drive.
ok so how do you do this for 3.1 version of daz studio? because much like Aethyr in another forum i am having the same issue loading, with it asking for textures. I recently got a new computer, and I thought things would be fine as my content was on an external drive (But i also got a new external hard drive and moved everything over and renamed the drive and paths). i have done this before and everything worked fine but not this time.
i was using windows 7 and update to windows 10. i moved all the files from one computer to next and even reinstalled daz Studio as like before. But when loading a scene its asking to locate the texture files, and they are excatly where they were before so now i have to hunt done all the textures. if i hit skip it brings in a white character and clothing. please help me. i truely dont want to update to 4. because i love 3.1

The path should start with Runtime, not Peanut. That suggests that the content directories were not correctly configured on the old system and so the relative paths are wrong. Assuming the files are correctly placed on the new system (the Runtiem and Data folders should be in the folder you have selected as a cntent directory, not in a sub-folder) use the Locate button to find the first map and DS should find all the others from the same folder without prompting, then you can save the scene (ideally nder a new name) so that you don't have to go through that again.
it was set up like that because i have many different runtimes. Peanut is a runtime that i named. even on the other laptop its like this. it has a runtime in it. it has no issues on the windows 7. but the windows 10 has the issue. i can bring stuff in but for a saved scene it ask only to find the textures. each single texture
You can have multiple content diectories, but they should not be nested one inside another and the content directory should contain the Runtme and Data folders. Have you tried using the Locate button and then after loading saving a new scene file from the result?
you want me to look for every texture of over a thousand characters plus clothing and props and resaving. i do work for a living, i did this for my ding folder on my other computer and it worked fine the computer that is having the issue is my husbands i can get it to see his peanut but its when loading a scene its asking for the textures and i have to do every single one by hand.. i dont have the time to do over a thousands characters. i have been doing daz since aiko 3.
As I said, once you have located one texture for a given path DS will usually find the rest that were in that folder so with luck it will be no worse than one texture per item, and you don't need to do it all at once just as you need the scenes. Try one and see how it goes.
i've already did that, thats what im trying to explain. it will ask for every single texture that is in that scene, i even tried making a new character and saving it and loading it and the new one has no issue. but my old scenes still do
Yes, because the old ones have the extra folder tacked on to the paths. You could uncompress the files and then in a text editor replace peanut/Runtime with Runtime - make a back up of the files first.
i aint going to do that. i can open that up but the information is way different then a pz2 or a cr2. im a merchant so i would know this. what your telling me to do would destroy my whole runtime. and i am sorry but i am not willing to do that. i already looked inside of that and i already looked in my log as well. im 16 steps ahead of you. now please Sir find someone on your staff who has dealt with this issue before.
A search and replace should handle the matter without needing to udnestand the format. I fail to see how I am asking you to destroy your Runtime (content directory) in any event. The issue is, or appears to be, an error in setting up the content directories on the old system from which you now need to recover - especially s you ar a vendor and need to make files suitable for others to use.
when i did this for my computer everything worked fine but my husbands laptop is having the issue.
christmas we both got new laptops and harddrives because we were updating. i did everything to mine first and i had no issue with loading a scene. its my husbands laptop that seems to be having the issue. i moved all the data over, all the hidden files and folders, i moved everything. excatly matching the other system. so their wouldnt be a problem.
but as you see the problem is there. when loading a old scene form his laptop. its asking for every single texture. where it didnt ask for it with mine. i know i didnt misplace anything so i dont understand why it doesnt see the textures. Peanut is a sub folder that has the main runtime in it, nothing has changed. as i said matches the windows 7 to the t.
If it is sub-folder than you do have nested libraries/directories that will confuse Studio and cause it to save absolute paths instead of relative.
ok so i forgot to add one thing and i got it fixed, in edit / preferences / Directories / Content Type / Daz Studio I had to add my Peanut to it.
it works
