Coat Tail Defies Gravity - How to Fix?

Hello Everyone!

I have tried to figure this one out on my own by doing research online and some experiments, but my search parameters must be off, as I haven't found the solution yet.

It's time to turn to the community! laugh

I have a figure who is wearing a coat with a "tail" at the back; when I put her in an action pose, the bottom-center of the coat tail wants to adhere to the character's bum, and defy gravity.

What I'd like is for it to actually obey gravity and fall flat, like in reality.

The coat is not inherently dForce, but any suggestions you can give which might work, I will definitely try!  I may need a bit of detail in your walk-throughs if it isn't too much trouble.

Thank you for your time!  And I'm attaching a screenshot example of my issue.  I apologize for the odd position of the camera, but it was the best way to depict my issue.

I would try to add a dForce modifier. If the tail is a separate surface I would set the strength to 0 for the other surfaces, to minimize risk of explossions and other weird behaviour. If it isn't a seperate surface you can try all, but if it has button or similar attachments you might need to add a weightmap and then only paint the tail red and the rest grey.

  • Thank you, Felis!  I had to look up a tutorial on how to properly add the dForce weight modifier, but once I understood it, I was able to fix it as you suggested!  I left the tail end red and subtracted the weight map from the upper region.  It now falls naturally, just as I wanted.

Again, thank you so very much.  You taught me a valuable lesson I will be using from here on!
