Cannot Remove Item From Default Category
I have looked everywhere for a way to resolve this issue, and cannot find anything that works. Any help you all can provide would be greatly apprecited.
I am re-categorizing my content in Daz Studio. The goal was to put items in "my" categories, and simultaenously remove them from the default categories, so that the default categories would only contain items that I had not moved to my own specific categories. However, unchecking the boxes in the Categorize screen that map an item into the default categories will not actually remove it from said default categories, nor will clicking the "Remove from all Categories" button. The categorize box will make you think that it's going to work how I want it to, but as soon as you bring the item back up and pull up its category options, it's back in default categories again.
There are two ways that I can see to get the effect that I want. Either by being able to remove the item from Default Categories, or by being able to pull up a listing of all items that are ONLY in default categories, not my special ones. Insight as to how to achieve either methodology will work.

The version after DS 4.9.2.70, a feature was added to prevent removal of Vendor Supplied Categories (VSC). When a user removed a VSC, a column/attribute was added to the CMS database to allow the original VSC to show or hide controlled by a setting in preferences known as "Show Hidden Vendor Categorizations" check box. It can be found on Edit>Preferences>Content tab.
If your DS is working properly, if you have it unchecked, you should not see a VSC that you've unchecked (removed).
When this change was rolled out, there was an update to CMS to add the column/attribute to show or hid a VSC. There was many of us received errors when the CMS update script ran. Eventually the CMS update occured without errors, but the "Show Hidden Vendor Categorizations" has never worked for me after version DS 4.9.2.70. It is unchecked and it still shows a user removed VSC. I'm just guessing my CMS database isn't cooperating with the show/hide preference setting. What I've been meaning to do is do a clean install on a spare pc with the current 4.12x of DS and CMS and see if I can get the feature work, but I just hung on to an installation of DS 4.9.2.70 that still allows me to remove a VSC and run the newest DS Beta along side DS 4.9.2.70 to get the new DS features.
Have you tried editing the metadata once you make a custom category? I have moved/removed a couple of products that were obviously out of place in the default categories. Right-click on your new category folder and select "Edit Metadata..." In the dialog, select your assets in the top half, and go to the Categories tab in the bottom half (that should be the default). Click on the arrows next to each item to expand the list to see which categories each one belongs to. Similar items will probably be in the same default category, but some types are highly specialized, like some pose sets. Select at least one instance of each of the categories you want to disown (ctrl-left-click), then right-click anywhere on the chosen and select "Delete Selected Categories from Listed Files". Repeat until you have cleared all items of any unwanted categories. Accept and you're done. That info can be restored at any time by re-importing the metadata since the metadata file is not actually altered. Worse comes to worst, you can re-install from the original package. Your custom categories will not be affected.
Hidden data applies only to those views which are for accessing content - the views that are for managing the database still show them (since they would be impossible to manage otherwise).
