Saving an Asset [Solved]

AbnerKAbnerK Posts: 718

Hi,

Here's what I'd like to fix. I make an asset. Give it a name. Load it into Daz. Transfer the asset to G8. Realise I'm not too happy with the name. Change the name in the Scene Tab then Save the asset out again. Then I discover that the old name for the asset still exists in the Data folder.

Is there a way to change the name everywhere without starting from scratch?

Also, somtimes I seem to have been succesful in creating a nice iray preview for it, whilst other times no matter what I do I cant replace the horrible Texture Shaded preview. I'm not saving as Compressed by the way.

I swear, I just spent longer saving and resaving an asset than it took to make it. Typing 'Woolly' Didn't help Argh. it's like a tongue twister for your right ring finger.

Is it my imagination or is there a product that does, at least the last bit for you?

Thanks.

Iray thumbnails need to be rendered, DS will generate only the OpenGL version - 91 pixels square, PNG format, same name as the .duf file (optionally filename.duf.png - if you use filename.duf and the DS tumbnail id filename.duf.png I think the latter will be the one displayed).

As for changing the name, remember that what shows in the Scene pane is only the label. Edit>Figure or Object>Scene Identification will let you change the name, but be careful to make sure that everything saves correctly (remember that the folder name in Data comes from the asset name).

To rename a user saved asset:
    - Find it in your content Library Pane.
    - Right click on the thumbnail and select rename.

    - You can also delete a saved asset this way.

Depending on the language of your OS (in case of Windows) Your saved files are most likely in a folder like this one -> C:/users/user/documents/Daz 3d/Studio/my library
there you can find the thumbnail files and overwrite it with a new and better one. But don't rename any files.

Thanks Richard, I just worked out that the new file preview only shows if you restart Daz Studio when viewing in Smart Content. I should have said that was where I was working. I never pursued that before.

Thank also, the Scene ID worked a treat. I'm learning Marvelous Designer  and, naturally, my older creations don't get used much but there's only so many new names for things you can come up with. I get why now that you get so many badly named filews from some PA's, names in the scene tab that have no resemblance to the product name. :) They can't know your trick. :)

    Thanks.
