Creating a texture / material from a render ?
Dear community,
I have an issue that I want to cover a larger object with insects (e.g. LoRez Flies). I tired ultrascatter (Pro & Advanced) but these many instances (10-100k) totally kill my system.
I now thought that I could create a texture (+bump) from a render... Did someone already do something similar like this ?
Or any other hint/approach ?
Thanks & best regards & stay healthy !
Peter

I haven't done that specifically, but texture maps are all simply images and the way that they were created is immaterial. So yes, there is no reason why you couldn't do what you are suggesting. The tricky bit would be creating a tilable texture, assuming that the image needs to be tiled, along with positioning the insects exactly where you wanted them. Assuming that you rendered the image(s) with a transparent background, you could apply them over the existing texture map using the Layered Image Editor (L.I.E.), or alternatively apply them directly to the existing texture maps in an image editing program and save them as a new custom map.
Could it be so simple ???? I feel embarassed...
