File Sizes Info

Is there any way you can post the file sizes of the items please?? I have brought so many things that I would not have brought if I had known the file sizes were so big :( Not everyone has a trillion gigabytes of space to use on their computer and even though I also use external hard drives they are all near enough full just with daz content! It really would help if I knew BEFORE buying products that I cannot install them as they are too big :( I still do not understand how some sellers have clothing/hair/props etc files at 36mb and others I've brought are over 500mb :O and they are similar outfits/hairs/props! My biggest problem is I do like the Light Presets and they are huge files but I know that because I've brought them before lol So I try and limit those due to the sizes, unless cake & bob or dreamlight and my other fave sellers can make smaller sized ones lol :D I can't be the only one that does not have the space for these large files :( Hope I dont annoy anyone with this post as it is not my intent! I genuinly just want to know the file sizes before I buy things I do not have the room for :(

I second this. It really would be nice if we could see the approximate file size(s) on the product page. There's been a couple of times I purchased a product and find out in DIM that its almost 1.4 Gb or bigger in size.

heh, correction. Originally I said "1 Tb or bigger" when it was around 1.4 Gb. I don't think I've seen anything bigger than a couple Gb over at Renderosity and 1.4 was the biggest I've seen in DIM so far.

  • Michelle, you're absolutely right about this.  The size of the files you'll need to download and store are relevant information when you are deciding on whether to spend money or not.  No one has infinite storage capacity, even with external hard drives.  I can usually guess the file size, give or take 15%, based on the features described at the store page, but there will be the occasional Install Manager shocker where the earrings you get for those special Arbor Day holiday renders will require 1.2 gigabytes of hard drive space.

File size info. is also conspicuously absent from the Product Index Page at the Daz Documentation Center.

Other sites for 3D models provide this info. Renderosity provides file sizes in a clear but unobtrusive way in their marketplace pages.

Rule of thumb is HDRIs, Billboards, shaders and any items that come with a lot of textures take up a lot of room.   On the bright side, you can uninstall and reinstall them anytime.

But it would be nice to have the information provided, especially for newcomers.

  • Yes I've realised if theres hdri's in them then expect huge files :( I even tried to get around that trying to find a hdri "shrinker" but there isn't one! tut But example some hairs are about 30mb yet others are nearly a gig :O they both look the same when rendered so why so large! and I've noticed the larger file hairs even though they look the same after being rendered take so much longer TO render too! There must be a way around these huge files surely :( I try and stick with the sellers I know use normal sized files now but again I've brought things thinking well that wont be a large file and it has been :( Thanks so much for the comments!! I didn't think Id be the only one wanting this x

Definitely. I always look at the "Textures Included" section and if I feel it's too many, I'll skip the product. HD morphs are big too.

For human characters, if they come with fibermesh hairs that makes them bigger too.
