NVIDIA Iray Viewport Rendering - Not working

Occasionally i will create a large scene in which the Iray viewport preview will stop working after a while. Even after i hide most assets, restart daz, etc.
As i rotate the camera, i can see the iray preview start to render as a pixelated image. However as soon as i stop rotating the camera, it goes back to a smooth-shaded view.
The Iray preview will have worked fine up until that point.
Is there way to fix this?

Even if the GPU drops out it should use the CPU, unless - in the current Public Build - you have prohibited CPU Fall back.
when i deleted my instances and converted them to normal nodes, it went back to normal.
