Rendering issue (Natural Eyes) - All black

Hi,

I recently purchased ChevyBabe25's Natural Eyes and have a problem when rendering. The eyes just come out all black - please see attached.

I have been using Daz Studio for a few months so have already tried a few things out but to no avail.

Any advice would be appreciated.

We would need more information about your render scene settings and character materials to answer definitively.  However, I find a similar occurance when the refraction settings are not usable for the Cornea and EyeMoisture surfaces.  Try setting the cutout/opacity to zero for those two surfaces and see if the black goes away.  If it does, then depending on the shader you're using, change the surface settings to be transparent but glossy.  For example, iray might be Refraction Weight 1, Refraction Index 1.25, and Thin Walled ON.  If the black remains, it may be some sub-surface or transluceny setting, or may even be the render evironment settings.

  • Thanks. The amended cutout / opacity settings certainly removed the 'black eyes' - please see attached.

After spending far too long trying different configurations, I am unable to find a way to remove the grey ring around the iris with the Natural Eyes material. I assume some cornea settings still need amending... I now have other problems such as the noise/speckles which have appeared within the eyes (probably too much gloss?). There is still a lot of combinations I need to work through before I (hopefully) achieve much better eye realism with the Natural Eyes product...

Just to answer your question re: render / scene settings etc. As you guessed, I am using iray with pretty much default rendering settings beyond 'scene only' (rather than a dome) with just one spotlight of white light @ 1500 lums in front the face (of an unconfigured G8F). That is about it...nothing complex.

The grey rings are possibly from the materials used for Irises, Pupils, and/or the Sclera surfaces.  For the Cornea/EyeMoisture, if you set all the default iray settings to every item, no mats set, and then adjust the three settings I mentioned above, that will make them transparent and glossy.  See attached settings.

For the other three surfaces, try another characters eye settings, or start with the basic materials only, then move on to add other options such as translucency, etc.

    Hope that helps.
