I have made a few different articles of clothing in Maya, and have been having trouble getting the rigging to be able to match the genesis character. Even with trying the transfer utility and adjust rigging to shape and transfer rigging. I was wondering if I am missing something or if there is more software I need or could be useful? if any one has any tips I would be very appreciative, thanks in advance for taking the time to read this post.

The very first step for Genesis clothing is to model the clothing on the Base figure in the T pose, same applies for the G2F and G2M figures. If you model on a Morphed shape the clothing will only transfer and work properly on the very same Shape they were modeled on in DAZ Studio.

Other than that more information would be needed to understand the issue you are having. If possible image examples would help, just keep them TOS (nudity) friendly please.

the major problem is that the transfer doesn't seem to recognize that the model that is imported as clothing, or any other follower or modifier. then when I try the save as and setup and then every time I get to the last step and when I do this the software crashes with a fatal error. that was my main reason for thinking I might need more software? I am going to try and create and setup the rigging in poser and then try transferring it from there.

Your going at it Backwards, IMHO. You load your Mesh in a T-Pose to the Figure and do the Transfer. You then do the Save As>Wearable. Or that is how I do it. I have no idea why it would crash doing it your way. It could just be the Mesh itself. Without images I have no clue.
