Iray render all black

Hi.

I´m starting to use the iray render, but every time i render, the render appears all black.

Like in the photo. What could be the problem?

Thank you

Given that it’s not really all black, I would guess that there are no lights other than the emissives on the outfit. Go to Render Settings -> Environment and tell us what the current setting is for lighting mode, or whatever the setting is actually called. It’s probably set to Scene Only.

  • Thank you for the answer. Yes, is set to Scene Only.

If i use Dome and Scene, any changes i do to lightning wont appear in the final render.

If you have lights that are not lighting it usually means you need to adjust the Tone Mapping in Render Settings.

Yes, they will. That setting determines which light sources are used for rendering. If your lighting changes aren’t being reflected in the render, that means there’s something wrong with the way you’re setting up the lights.

  • I only insert a distant light, or a spot light, move them and nothing else. But in the render nothing happens

It can be difficult to notice lighting changes in Iray if everything is left default. Add some zeroes to the luminance setting of the light, lower the exposure value and/or raise the l/cm^2 setting in tone mapping, and you’ll be able to see the difference.

Are you using perspective view or an actual camera?

If you are using perspective view, try creating a camera and render from the camera, not perspective view.

If you are using a proper camera, check the focal distance in the camera's properties. Try resetting it or adjust the focal distance so that its lined up with the render object. The focal distance of a camera can change how lighting appears. Every time you reposition your camera, be sure to update it. Would be nice if Daz had an autofocus mode so that you can assign a target for a camera to always keep in focus automatically.

We could probably be more helpful to you if you posted additional screen shots showing both your Render settings and your scene lighting setup.  It seems at first glance that you don't have lighting set bright enough or close enough, or that you're scene is set to very low evironment settings.  However, it's difficult to tell because the screenshot you provided is covering up some of that information.

Turn the lumens up on your distant light.  Ive even had to go up to the 100k's.

From the shadow on the character, it looks like the distant light is comming from the back, so that is why the character appars black from the camera angle. Move the light to the front of the character and check again.

Reminds me of a recent episode that happend to me... Placed a point light with a rectangle in front of my camra. Rectangle did not show up in edit mode, but extended in front of the camera as soon as I started render. SO all black. Took me 30 min to figure out. DOU!!

  • I'm just getting completely black images, like no shape of anything, just an entire black square.

That's a symptom of not having enough VRAM, what GPU are you using?
